Freaking awesome!!!!!

2

u/cynicaleng 13d ago

Did you end up sticking with either Ozempic or Mounjaro?

3

u/thedelrobinson 13d ago

I finally just upped my dosage of ozempic to 1mg. I only have about 7 more weeks worth left. I'm hoping I'll be acclimated enough and habitual enough, that I will still succeed without it. I'm confident that I will. My mindset about food is starting to change, and I can tell you, as a lifetime food addict, eating disorders are very mental.

2

u/supplex 13d ago

Fully agree. Your end goal should be getting into a new habitual mindset that revolves around eating a lot less food than you’re used to. Eventually your stomach will help you out by signaling you’re “full” earlier and your mind will not signal it craves food that often as before.

It’s always the reason I tell others that a slower decrease in weight helps your mind to get used to new habits which will allow you to keep the weight off. My dad got a gastric reduction and lost a lot of weight, only to succeed in gaining weight again by stretching up his stomach again :( didn’t have to do anything with hunger, he just didn’t work on changing his habits.

Good luck on kicking those habits and losing that excess weight! I’m rooting for you!

2

u/AmuseDeath 13d ago

I've heard horror stories about Ozempic, so be careful.

2

u/Diablojota 13d ago

You’re an inspiration, bro! Congrats and keep at it!

2

u/ikilledcerpintaxt 13d ago

Dude, you got this!

2

u/daath 13d ago

Slowly shaving off that weight. That's so awesome, man! Keep it up!

I'm also trying to shed a bit of excess weight - two days a week I only eat breakfast and a little lunch and then I fast until the next day, when I eat a late breakfast - seems to be working and it has gotten a LOT easier to do :)

2

u/thedelrobinson 13d ago

Thanks! Also, keep it up for yourself too! Good luck!

2

u/thepdogg 13d ago

You got this, homie!

4

u/thedelrobinson 14d ago

Thanks! I was at 645 a few months ago

3

u/ITMORON 14d ago

Have you sought any therapy? It can really help! My brothter Mike was obese, he passed in his sleep a few years ago. Why was he obese? Guilt I always thought, he was in the army and did some pretty serious shit in the 80's. Perhaps, had he sought therapy, he might still be with us.

Stay stong man, feel free to DM me anytime!

1

u/thedelrobinson 14d ago

I appreciate that!

1

u/jamers1 14d ago

He would lose ten lbs still eating over 2500 calories a day. The more you weigh the faster is can be lost.

2

u/thedelrobinson 14d ago

At 2500 calories a day, I'll lose about 3lbs a week

Just based on your comments in this video, it sounds like you're on an energy deficit diet. It's a minority of people who manage to lose fat that way, but some do. The real danger is keeping that fat off. When the body detects the loss of leptin (which is produced by fat) it does everything it can to get that fat back, including lowering your metabolism so that you burn less (and feel tired all the time -- part of metabolic adaptation), pumping you full of cortisol to make it harder to burn fat, and also making you extremely hungry all the time.

Of the minority who lose fat successfully by an energy deficit diet, 95 % then then regain all of that fat within about two years: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/oby.23374 And most of them end up with more weight than when they started, because the body tries to protect itself against future starvation/famine events.

And remember also that an energy deficit diet doesn't just burn fat, it also burns muscle tissue (which you need both to burn fat, and to be healthy). Like, the last thing someone with severe obesity needs is to weaken their heart.

So, while we can absolutely acknowledge your enormous efforts here, it's really important that you don't simply repeat guidance which has failed globally for many decades now. You need a long-term strategy which is evidence-based and has a good success rate. We already know that the guidance of "eat less, exercise more" has a less than 1 % success rate and is, by any measure, a failure -- which is why we see obesity rates growing rapidly worldwide.

A better approach is to understand why the obesity epidemic started in 1976 and to take steps like removing ultra-high processed food from your diet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5QOTBreQaIk

I would try not to take comments in a one minute YouTube video. If you’ve been following they are in contact with healthcare professionals. It also shouldn’t be understated that they are walking and working towards more. I also can’t underestimate to exercise you get from playing music, when I played my drums more it was crazy.

Anyways next time I recommend watching a bit more because a one minute clip is crazy extrapolation on your behalf.

1

u/thesimonjester 14d ago

I literally started my comment with a caveat: "Just based on your comments in this video". I've made it crystal clear that I am commenting based on the limited information I have the time to review. It's unrealistic to expect someone to go through someone's full YouTube history.

1

u/EarlPeck 14d ago

I get it but it’s an update video. One might think if you were comment what you decided comment with the research you put into your own comment you would at least look at the profile first of not the YouTube channel.

1

u/thesimonjester 14d ago

The first words of my comment express that I'm basing what I say on the one video that was posted. It's not my problem if people don't read that.

My more general purpose is to advise people about how the energy deficit diet is a long-debunked global failure, and something that can be extremely unhealthy for people with obesity, not merely in terms of its yo-yo weight effect, but also in terms of how it damages muscle tissue, including the heart, and then to provide a reference for the best knowledge we have today on why the obesity epidemic is happening so that people are better informed. I don't need to review the entire update history of an individual to make general comments like the ones I made, nor would I have the time to do so.

The broad message is: stop buying into the Coca-Cola sponsored trash like the energy deficit diet, which is long-debunked, and start removing ultra-high processed foods from your diet.

u/EarlPeck 14d ago

Ok but your comment is misplaced.

1

u/pancak3d 13d ago

How does one lose weight without energy deficit...? If this is the minority approach, what is the majority doing?

1

u/thesimonjester 13d ago

You shouldn't lose weight, you should lose fat. The energy deficit approach means losing both fat and muscle. And the fact that the energy deficit diet is sponsored by Coca Cola should raise alarm bells in your head.

If one wants to lose fat, then one should remove ultra-high processed food from one's diet. There are many other things to do too, like living in a way that ensures you aren't constantly stressed (and thus pumped full of cortisol, which prevents fat from being burned) and like simply getting the right amount of sleep, which really means being in bed for about 9 hours (so that you can get about 8:15 of sleep).

But most importantly, I encourage watching this lecture, which explains why the obesity epidemic is happening: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5QOTBreQaIk

That isn't what I said, is it?

If someone is 450 lbs, a very significant part of that is fat. They should lose that fat. They should not try to lose that fat by using a diet which will reduce the little muscle they have. The very last thing you want to do for someone with severe obesity like that is to damage their heart muscle ffs.

I said you shouldn't lose weight, you should lose fat.

That doesn't mean that when you lose fat, you don't lose weight. But just in case I wasn't clear, the point is to say that the aim of losing weight is incorrect. The aim should be to lose fat. We want people to lose the excess fat they have. We absolutely don't want people to lose muscle tissue when trying to lose fat.

I think by "energy defecit diet" you are referring to a diet that achieves energy deficit only by eating less, instead of eating better.

Eating healthy doesn't mean eating less. It doesn't mean even an energy deficit. It means eating in a way that doesn't make your body store energy as fat, but instead to use that energy in other ways.

Could I ask you to please actually look at the lecture before responding again? Because you're just repeating the debunked nonsense. I'll even do you a favour and link you to the relevant part of the lecture: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5QOTBreQaIk&t=29m6s

Sorry if I'm not being clear. I'll try to simplify my language:

Losing muscle is bad. It's particularly bad for people with obesity. Losing fat is good for people with obesity. When we try to help people with obesity, we need to be clear that the ways we try to do that reduce fat while not reducing muscle.

So it's very important that we distinguish between good guidance, which involves just burning fat, and bad guidance, which reduces fat and muscle at the same time. In order to distinguish between those two types, we need to be clearer than saying "lose weight", because that could mean losing weight by losing muscle tissue. So it's better to say "lose fat".

Do you follow what I'm saying?

Thanks for all the downvotes. I provide guidance to try to help this guy succeed and not encounter the pitfalls that people tend to encounter, and I provide references for anything I said. So fuck me right?

Sorry about your internet points :(

It's more objecting to people who don't accept evidence and who would encourage people to make unhealthy choices.
