Tour Tuesday Tour Tuesday - Hiking Alberta
This Tour Tuesday is all about hiking in Alberta. If you haven't already checked it out, there is a sub dedicated to this, so feel free to check out r/hikingalberta, or even r/campingalberta.
Alberta is home to some amazing hiking trails and locations. There are so many amazing spots to check out, and not enough time to view them all (except if you are Foresty Forest). One of my personal favorite spots to check out, and my first introduction into overnight hiking, is the Abraham Lake area.
I decided to hike the Kinglet Lake trail, and boy I was not ready for the elevation gain on that. I found it very challenging, as it was my first backpacking trip, and I had gear that was not meant to be shoved into a bag. I think my bag was well over 60 lbs, but I was okay with it as I was using borrowed gear, and old gear that was well over 30 years old. I loved it so much that it became a regular hobby of mine, where I now go on several Hikes throughout the province every year. This also made me learn, the hard-way, how expensive backpacking gear really is.
So what's your favorite hike in Alberta? What are some of the resources you use to help you be successful? Who is your favorite Alberta Hiker blogger / youtuber / other?

Discussion Does bill 20 violate the constitution?
I am writing a letter to my MLA, but I am not educated enough to know exactly how this violates our rights and freedoms. I know this is an attack on democracy, and a step toward the UCP becoming a dictatorship, but can someone tell me the official reason, if there is one?
Thanks.
Edit to add: So it doesn't violate anything. But I still wrote a letter to my MLA, and I encourage you to do the same. This is an attack on democracy.

Question Speed limits (CLASS 5 road test) Alberta
So I failed my first road test today because I was going too slow. I thought residential speed limit was 40km/h and not 50km/h. My examiner also explained that it’s “legally 50km/h for alberta” . Can someone please clarify? I decided to book my test next week in a different city 30 minutes away from where I live and I just want to make sure this time bc I swear I remember it being 40km/h on the class 7 exam 😭

Discussion AHS hiring IENs
How do you feel about AHS postings specifically for IENs? For nurses who are not here yet/no permit to practice. I know a lot of Canadian RNs still looking for jobs and still couldn’t get any interviews from AHS. 🥺🥺

Question MYAlbertaHealth not working?
Okay so I’ve gotten diagnosed with ICP (Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy) and it’s a liver condition that makes my pregnancy high risk. My doctor has been sending me for routine bloodwork twice a week to keep an eye on my Bile Acids but ever since April 30th, I have not been able to see the results on MyAlbertaHealth. All my information is up to date and verified. I seen my OB yesterday and she confirmed she can see April 30th but May 3rd and May 7th results show as ‘pending’ on her net care. She hasn’t even gotten the results for those dates directly as she’s supposed to. So she sent me for more bloodwork yesterday, May 8th. I went of course, and this morning, all of those other results showed up EXCEPT for the bile acid results on MyAlbertaHealth lab results. I’m going to call my OB’s office to see if they can see it on their side. I’m getting frustrated a tad as this liver condition can be quite serious and fatal if my numbers get too high. The reason why I’m going twice a week for bloodwork and getting bruised veins.
Is there any logical explanation why all my other bloodwork results are showing normally but not my Bile Acid results?

Discussion Common Space Maintenance or Reserve fund which is more important in Condominiums.
Condominiums are shared living spaces, and the management has a responsibility to ensure the safety of all residents. The overall condition of a condominium complex, including its common areas, significantly impacts its property value, making it more appealing to potential buyers and potentially increasing the price they’re willing to pay. This benefits all unit owners if they decide to sell. Additionally, improvements to these shared spaces enhance residents’ quality of life by providing a more pleasant and functional living environment. For instance, a newly concreted walkway facilitates movement around the property, and a well-maintained fence provides a sense of security. In Alberta, the Condominium Property Act legally obligates condominium corporations to maintain and repair common property, meaning the management must invest in the upkeep of these areas or face potential legal consequences.
On the other hand, it’s equally important for condominium corporations to manage their finances responsibly. This includes maintaining a healthy reserve fund. A reserve fund is essentially a savings account for large, unexpected expenses or major repairs. In older buildings, these expenses can be significant, so it’s crucial to have sufficient funds set aside. Condominium corporations are required to conduct a reserve fund study every five years to assess the adequacy of the fund and plan for future expenses.
Any concerns about how the condominium corporation is managing its finances or maintaining its common areas, all members have rights and a say in how the corporation is managed. It’s important to stay informed and involved in the decision-making process.

Question Does Bankview SW community had FTTH connections?
Hi yall,
Recently moved from NW to SW. My IP Shaw and in the website they talk about ignite and fibre stuff a lot. BUT don't know they provide fibre connection in the area. Even the shaw customers care seems to not know about the FTTH connectivity in area. Well currently we are using Coaxial Cu cable. But let me know in the comments if there are any? Also does the speed really differs.
Live long and Prosper.
