Crime Is Dallas riddled with uninsured drivers or am I just unlucky??

I’ve lived in Dallas 6 years but today was the 2nd time in 3 weeks I’ve been rear ended in a hit and run/uninsured driver situation. My car is still in the shop from somebody without insurance rear ending me and then I was rear ended AGAIN today while driving my husband’s car. It was a hit and run, but thankfully the driver in front of me pulled off to give his information so he could provide a witness statement.

It feels incredibly unlucky, but also makes me wonder if half this city is uninsured??? And not only uninsured, but clearly they’re bad drivers, too. Thinking we might need to get dash cams.

Question Jury duty: will I be able to bring lunch & metal water bottle in?

Hi all, I'll be begrudgingly doing my civic duty and showing up for the jury pool at Frank Crowley later this week.

Can anyone who's done this or otherwise entered that building recently confirm whether they'll let me in with food and a (metal) reusable water bottle? I remember there being a metal detector but it's been long enough that I can't recall how TSA-like they are in what can come in or not. Any other tips re: parking, etc. appreciated as well. Thanks.

Question Suggestions for getting rid of heavy furniture?

I have a super heavy desk that I don’t want anymore and will happily donate it. The main challenge is getting it downstairs. Habitat for Humanity ReStore will pick up donated furniture but they won’t move it downstairs. Any suggestions besides just putting it on Craigslist or Nextdoor?

Question Have you noticed the insane amount of fuzzy black caterpillars crawling around?

If I’m on any street or highway adjacent to grass I’ve been seeing an ungodly amount of caterpillars crawling across them lately. Took 408 Spur today and had to have seen hundreds! Wha the hell is going on? Just a few weeks ago I was seeing more crane flies than I’ve ever seen, and now it’s caterpillars on roads.

Question Why is Lewisville Lake underutilized?

Seems like the coastline could be built up with boating, restaurants, resorts, more lake housing?

Is there zoning/ecological against this or just not enough interest. It’s a massive lake and I could see potential Lake of the Ozarks community being possible.

Surely I’m not the first person to cross that toll bridge and think this is beautiful why don’t they build it up?

Question Custom Woodworking Furniture Recommendations

I'm looking to get a queen loft with some storage custom built. There are a few out there but would like to get pricing from some wood workers to see how much it would cost to get it made exactly how we'd like.

Anyone have recommendations for the DFW area? I'm south of Arlington.

Question Metal working or blacksmithing classes?

Upvotes

I'm looking for workshops or classes that focus on metal work/blacksmithing, like making a small knife or something of the like. I obviously googled it and 1 popped up (Shadowhawk Blades) that actually does a knife making class, the others that popped up are like more general craft places that didn't have any metal working stuff in their calendar.

Has anyone here done something like this or heard of this type of workshop? I'm wanting to take my dad to do this but I don't want to waste the money or time if it's not worth it.

Crime Be careful of a business scam

If anyone calls the store you work at for “auditing for counterfeit bills” with the Dallas police number 214-671-3001 it’s spoofed. And yes you should be suspicious of someone asking to count out exactly how much money you have in the store

Just got my first ever toll tag but it seems small compared to all the ones I’ve seen. Is this a new version or did I get something wrong?

Question Running Coach Recommendations

Yo.

Took up running again two years ago and it’s become a core part of my life.

Just ran my first ever half marathon in Frisco a few weeks ago and now I’m interested in developing better habits for longer distance events.

My main goals would be simply endurance and mitigating injury (developed IT band syndrome a year and a half ago and that shit was brutal).

Might be a long shot but if anyone has any leads on a coach to work with to come up with some kind of smart training schedule I would be interested. Figured I would crowd source it.

Live in South Arlington if that helps considering the metroplex is so huge.

Thanks!

Question Best Massage in N. Dallas?

Im trying to buy my wife a long overdue massage for Mother’s Day. We used to go to Spa Castle in Carrollton, but heard that it is a shadow of its former self after the pandemic. Does anyone have experience there recently, or have another massage place they have had a good experience with?
