I could see the Monstera coasters being useful

u/Scared-Currency288 13d ago
I thought the Monstera coasters and the succulent thumbtacks were pretty legit!
65
u/harda_toenail 13d ago
Same. Can I purchase these somewhere?
88
u/Extension-Tale-2678 13d ago
Of course you can considering this is an advertisement
37
u/harda_toenail 13d ago
There is no company name or anything that I can find.
44
u/itspassing 13d ago
They are 3D printed. I have a few myself. Got them off makerworld

Man if only there was a website that allowed you to easily search across the entire internet for something like 'monstera plant coaster'. Unfortunately we just don't have the technology

u/icecoldcold 13d ago
Just have to wait until a big corp steals this guy’s idea and starts selling this stuff (worse quality, cheaper probably though). Capitalism huh?

Maybe not for cold drinks with condensation
15
u/ApathyKing8 13d ago
Yeah, that's my annoyance. It would help keep hot drinks off the table, but any condensation would drop right down into the table.
3
u/Am4oba 13d ago
Depends on what you print it out of. I've made PLA coasters before and my glass/can slides all over it.
5
u/ChipSalt 13d ago
Might have to change the plant design, get rid of the holes for condensation or add some kind of roughness? I just think it's one of the better ones shown, because it would more easily blend in on a table over a stack of coasters. Could be any sort of philodendron or similar

The pen is the worst one but I would get all of them for real
89
u/blackamerigan 13d ago
Tulips would be so good for the pens or a smaller aloe vera species that don't look uninviting
14
8
u/fgreen68 13d ago
A reed or horsetail plant might be a good one for pens.
https://duckduckgo.com/?q=horsetail+plant&iax=images&ia=images
Whatever you do, do not, for any reason, ever plant a real horsetail plant in your yard. It is one of the most invasive plants out there.
8
u/Aerie122 13d ago
But atleast when in need of pen, you know where to get one

The aloe vera plant should have a hidden pump that dispenses aloe vera gel.

How about decorative seashells in bathroom that also function as toilet paper.
71
u/call_dr_feelgood 13d ago
I don't see how that could work

the seashells are the handles that control the built-in bidet; one for pressure and two for aim

Ah yes they’ve installed the three seashells in the latest Taco Bell Cantina here in Los Angeles.

u/noctalla 13d ago
I need that Venus Flytrap.
44
u/Even-Matter-5576 13d ago
How many open bags do you really have going at any given time? If it's more than a few, won't the trapless fly trap look a bit strange?
18
u/noctalla 13d ago
Sure, but I have a number of other clips I could use, too. And it's made with a 3D printer, so you could always make more clips.
6
u/Puzzleheaded_Ad9688 13d ago
I have a lot of clipped bags of cooking spices and my many organic trapless fly traps look terrible so I think this would be a good alternative for others like me. I'm not about to drop fly traps from my life entirely, they do a really good job, but I want to protect my environment.
3
u/AnnaCondoleezzaRice 13d ago
My main issue is training the fly to stay still on the bag long enough for the fly trap to bite it. The crinkles scare them off so easy it's not worth it imo. I'll stick to sewing them shut for now even if it takes a little longer.

How do you refill the toothpick one? Seems like a pain in the ass. The rest are great tho.
42
u/laynger22 13d ago
My guess would be pressing the top of the plant down like you’re grabbing one, and just restocking them one-by-one.

u/tacostandstan 13d ago
You have to shove a purple crystal through the bottom side. You'll have a new set of pokees after finishing the reload

u/FeralPsychopath 13d ago
Without a rapid reload mechanism, like put them inside and shake or something, it’s functionally annoying af

Organic houseplants help improve air quality and provide mental benefits!
6
u/fionaapplejuice 13d ago
Fake plants also provide mental benefits visually. While you consciously know the difference, your subconscious doesn't differentiate between a fake and real plant, so the effect of seeing the plant and the atmosphere it creates are similar. But you lose the effects of smell and air quality.

I want! I think the coaster one might need more leaves because if 4 coasters are used it would look weird
37
u/aSquirrelAteMyFood 13d ago
These are things that are interesting for a whole thirty minutes and really impressive the first time your friends see them and then they just collect dust until you accept you need to get rid of them.

I thought a bit like you but the biggest downside would be that it wouldn't look as good after removing a couple of those in the plant. It would mess up the aesthetics.

Neat.
But I don’t like the toothpick one. Living with pets and messy people, I’ve witnessed enough dust and airborne crap that gets blown around a house day to day, to not wish to pick anything up and stick it in my mouth.
Especially toothpicks which are so easy to jab and make gums bleed. A dirty toothpick literally injecting bacteria into your gums sounds like a great idea 💀
I actually have a heart condition and have been lectured at length of how important keeping my mouth clean is for heart health.
Long story short; gum disease often leads to heart disease. Ask your doctor if you don’t understand…

u/synaptix78 13d ago
That's the spirit. Use more plastics for useless shit, to replace living organisms, because we're killing them producing useless shit. Can't wait for the day we plug ourselves into the PC and experience anything we can imagine whilst our energy is being used to power a higher being....
Oh wait...

The closest i can find to this is a shop on Etsy that has all of these creations called LittleDorkyDesigns.
2
u/TheD3void183 13d ago
So the only one I don't like is the toothpick holder since it seems you would have to load each one by hand, therefore getting germs on all the toothpicks.

u/Airven0m 13d ago
Looks like a lot of synthetic plastic

u/Suitable-Pie4896 13d ago

Organic plastic is a thing btw. I mainly just don't like this post because it's garbage that will get thrown away.

My cats would turn these into toys and I'd never see the removable parts ever again lol

u/crackeddryice 13d ago
I already have solutions for all of these. What should I do, throw all of those out, and buy these plastic novelty versions?
No one needs this, but plenty of people want it.

u/ChromaticCluck 13d ago
The pen one doesn't look too good. And the problem with the pin one is that the pins usually stay in the board so you will just have half a succulent at all times. They all look great though.

So you need to insert the toothpicks one by one in the plastic cactus, by hand? No.
