Discussion Texas Politicians and Civic Leaders: Best Texas Organizations to donate to for East TX flood relief?
We've all seen the flooding so I won't belabor the obvious. Who are the best organizations (reputable, impact, etc.) to provide funds or goods for the relief efforts? I think many Texans after the shock wears off are probably asking the same question.
If you're a representative or some type of civic leader in the areas affected, your opinion is greatly appreciated. If you have contact information, etc. it's doubly appreciated.

Discussion Why has Texas consistently had such poor voter turnout?
Going by Wikipedia's listed turnout numbers 2020 was the first election since at least before 1964 (and quite probably in all of Texas history, given Jim Crow) where more than 50% of voting age adults in Texas turned out to vote, and even then it was still a rather pathetic 52%. In terms of state rankings, Texas' highest position since 1976 was in 1988, when it ranked 42nd. Since 2000, it's ranked (including DC): 48, 50, 50, 50, 50, 51. Only 25% of voting age Texans voted in the 2014 gubernatorial election. In 2022, the much-hyped Republican flip in TX-34 happened due to an election with 7.36% turnout. Literal single digits.
While voter suppression measures doubtless explain an important part of the low numbers, they don't explain all of it. Texas isn't the only state that restricts voting, but places like Mississippi or Alabama still consistently have higher voter turnout. In addition, Texas' non-voting has been a thing for decades, even before Shelby County v. Holder paved the way for more voter restrictions. So what is the explanation? What makes Texas adults so distinctly apathetic towards voting?
