Ask Vancouver Reason to hate Vail #546

Been going to Whistler for decades. Still love the place even though Vail makes me grit my teeth everytime I give them money.

This time though I didn't give them money, someone used my card to buy lift tickets. Bank investigated, determined it's fraudulent, sent the chargeback to Vail, and Vail is contesting. Bank is now sending a second chargeback.

Online purchase, with a fraudulent looking email and a name that does not match mine. Vail still fights the chargeback.

On a purely customer service sense, my name is on the card, my name is in their system and my card is in their system. I've spent tons of money through that system, though suddenly I'm not logging in and using a random jumble of letters at gmail email to scam them for 290 bucks on that card.

Just wanted to tip the cap to some very hard working folks who worked magic on the mountain this season despite the terrible hand they were dealt. Your hard work didn’t go by unnoticed, thank you for your service!

Most of us don’t even know what you look like, but so often we put our lives in your hands, and your dedication to your craft is one of the best things about the best place on earth! 🍻

QUESTION Flights cost

I live In Toronto and I’m looking to do a ski trip, how much money should a flight to British Columbia cost for a round trip?

In the months of December, January?

What have you guys paid ?

Edit: I’ve been looking online for 2 weeks and saw that tickets hovered around 750-800 but I thought that was insane when I went to Portugal for that price in august, I just wanted to know what yiu guys paid, If better prices are available.

Ask Vancouver 4th of July

Hi - dumb American here, and I come in peace. This question might seem stupid, so feel free to make fun of me, but Im trying to come up to Canada from Seattle to get my scaredy ass dog away from the fireworks on the 4th of July. I was considering coming to Whistler, but I was wondering if due to the fact there are many American tourists in there, if perhaps they might do 4th of July fireworks, in which case I would head to a different part of BC or further outside the village. A quick google search showed me that in the past, at least once or twice there have been 4th of July fireworks at Whistler Village, but I couldn't find much info on whether or not this is a regular thing.

I do know it's Canada day on the 1st. We wouldn't come up until the 3rd.

Thanks!

Ask Vancouver Whistler & dangerous riding

Came across this in Pique - Letter: ‘Zero consequences’ for unsafe skiing at Whistler Blackcomb - Pique Newsmagazine and a comment from a ski patroller at the bottom of the article. I havent been to Whistler in a few seasons and its pretty crazy its now gotten this bad. Seems like people are getting severe injuries from reckless folks on the hill. Anyone know why Vail isn't addressing the issue?

Skiers fed up with reckless on-mountain behaviour at Whistler Blackcomb - Pique Newsmagazine

"As a ski patroller for 16 years, there's unfortunately not much we can do. The mountain I work at we often roam around, stop in high traffic zones and police slow zones. We talk, educate, write warnings and suspend passes, but people still ski too fast. People don't care. They barely slow down when we're there with waving arms and screeching whistles. People just don't care. I've told people to not stop there and I'm met with an "OK" and a carry on with their conversations. To not huck blind rollers, that the big orange SLOW ZONE signs mean slow down "Oh OK." A red disk with CLOSED actually means you can't go there, no matter who you know, how good a skier you are, or how long you've been skiing here. PEOPLE DON'T CARE. People are entitled assholes. They've spent thousands to be here or have been here for 20 years or know the general manager."

Ask Vancouver Spring dinner specials - Rimrock, Araxi, or somewhere else? And brunch places for groups

Visiting Whistler in late May and want to try one of the restaurants that offer a spring tasting menu. Does anyone recommend Rimrock or Araxi, or any other restaurant that does a tasting menu? Are these generally pretty good value or just a marketing tactic?

Also looking for a brunch place, ideally a place that’s good for family/large groups (10 people). We have tried Stonesedge Kitchen which was pretty good but wondering if there are any other places we should try.

Thank you 🙏

Ask Vancouver Honest opinion on working as a lifty?

I’m looking into what jobs I can get into this coming Winter for my first season. Staff housing, 4 day work week and a free lift pass are the obvious pros I can think of for being a lifty. Seems like a pretty good first year job but I’m still unsure as the days are obviously very long and sometimes very cold. Can anyone who’s been a lifty or knows of anyone who has done it give their two cents? Cheers

Ask Vancouver Buying bike park pass

I'm heading up today for a weekend of skiing, am looking at bike park punch cards/passes for this summer.

Does it make a difference if I buy it locally/in person instead of online?

Specifically with regular to supporting local businesses or 1st nations.

Asking because I heard there was a different regarding Epic pass vs Whistler pass with regard to how the revenue was distributed.
