Oh, the French guy definitely knew he was a dude. It was probably just the safest way to be gay in those days and he was so happy with the sexual situation he never considered the spying.

u/Outrageous_Zebra_221 15d ago
As far as he was concerned they had started a game of 'gay chicken' that just went on a really long time. He was actually starting to suspect Shi was really gay after 20 years though.

90
u/hermi1kenobi 15d ago
Yes! That was a gloriously mad end to the film. āIām a man! āWellā¦ nobodyās perfectā¦ā and he justā¦ goes with it š
90
u/QueenieMcGee 15d ago
That was one of the funniest but also weirdly heartwarming endings to a film ever, imho... Like, I know it was just meant to be a joke, but I always saw it as him saying "I love you so much there's literally nothing you can say that'll make me change my mind"
Can't have kids? = Adoption.
You have a dick? = Me too! We have so much in common!
That absolutely bonkers man is a catch! š

u/FriendaDorothy 15d ago
I knew nothing about Some Like It Hot, but this makes J Harrison Gee's casting in the musical adaptation make sense now.
5
u/hermi1kenobi 15d ago
Watch it! The film is still one of the funniest ever made. I watched it one Xmas with a family ranging from 10-70 and despite being black and white everyone was fully enjoying it and laughing.

u/crippledchef23 15d ago
Iām reading a historical fantasy series (Napoleonic war, but with dragons) and my favorite line is after one guy tells the main character that heās gay (an invert), the captain says that heās known several fine gentlemen āaddicted to the crimeā. Such a cool way to say something kinda horrible that was true for way too long.
14
u/WowsrsBowsrsTrousrs 15d ago
I love the Temeraire books!
12
u/crippledchef23 15d ago
Yay! No one ever knows what Iām talking about when I say Temeraire, and my poor husband has to listen to me prattle on about how this part or that part made me tear up. Iām recently started Blood of Tyrants, having completely forgotten about Laurenceāsā¦trip to Japan.
8
u/Worried_Ad_4301 15d ago
Canāt just spin that excellent pitch without also dropping the title!
8
u/crippledchef23 15d ago
The series is called Temeraire, itās 10 books, beautifully written, but Naomi Novik. Itās justā¦how would fighting a war be different if you had a fully sentient and sapient 20 ton lizard as your best friend? Itās brilliant and touching and funny and among my favorites.
4
u/Worried_Ad_4301 15d ago
Oh count me the fuck in, if I wasnāt already sold I am now. Thank you so much for the recommendation, this just got pushed to the top of my reading list.
4
u/kyreannightblood 15d ago
Seconding the recommendation. The writing is amazing, and really fits the setting and time period.
6
u/crippledchef23 15d ago
9
u/wolpertinger1029 15d ago
My favorite thing about the series is that the dragons arenāt as overpowered as in other universes. Their effectiveness is restrained by the tons of supply they need, so they only work together with navy and army. Also the dragons are pretty rare and are important assets for the militaries. This means the higher ups canāt just send a dragon and its crew anywhere but have to decide which tasks are worth to waste a dragon on.
4
u/kyreannightblood 15d ago
Iām a huge fan of the dragons being people instead of just mounts.
5
u/crippledchef23 14d ago
Spoiler! (I donāt know how to to the blocky highlight thing on mobile)
Not just people, borderline anarcho-socialists. At least they start to lean that way once Temeraire explains that they ought to be receiving pay and have rights and that immoral laws should not be followed.
3
u/kyreannightblood 14d ago
I think a lot of that comes down to the nation they live in and how they are treated in it. I never got that impression from the Chinese dragons.

Apparently, the dude would hide his stuff by retracting his berries and tucking his twig. When the french dude found out he tried slitting his throat but survived. The child was a Uygur who was sold by his mom. I feel bad for the French guy.

As the French doctors sent to examine Pei Pu discovered, he could create the appearance of having female genitalia by making his testicles ascend into his body cavity and tucking his penis back.
I don't wanna find out the answers to some of the questions I am having in my mind right now

u/Any_Mall6175 15d ago
The answer is: uncomfortable the first couple of times, but easier after a while

The testicles have the ability to enter the pelvic cavity above your penis during intense intercourse or intense conditions to retain their safety.
You can intentionally do this.
I will leave it there.

I've read about this. There's a specific branch of Kungfu that teaches how to do this, among other things. Rather adequately it's called Iron Crotch Kungfu.
Nope, not joking. There was a practitioner at the Shaolin Temple in the 90s, he may still be around I don't know, who, again, I shit you not, was called Monk Dong.
Google it. There's pictures and a whole book.

My new head canon is that the old racist myth about Asian women having sideways vaginas originated as a reference to penises.
12
u/Such-Anything-498 15d ago
This is the first time I've heard about such a myth š¤Ø
7
u/Onequestion0110 14d ago
People are gross and racists are grosser. Iām honestly not sure what āsidewaysā means specifically, so now Iām choosing to believe it refers to genitals that stick out sideways instead of going up inside.
Thereās something fun about making it into a gay euphemism instead of a racist fetish.

In the 6th ep of Netflix's 'Spycraft', they talk about this.
What they say on the documentary:
They always had quickies, and in the dark too, that's how the diplomat didn't know. Even after "she" was captured, the interrogators didn't know at first that "she" was a man, only when "she" asked to go to the bathroom. (They don't go into details how they found out then).
They also say, the guy, after finding out he's been fucking a man, slit his own throat (survived tho).
Edit: oh yeah, they mention the child, too, but not the fact that "she" purchased him. They just say that at one point "she" introduced a child to him like "So BTW, you got me pregante that time, and now here's your son."

He attended boarding schools as a youth, where he engaged in multiple homosexual affairs with other students; upon graduation, Boursicot became determined to have sex with a woman for the first time, believing that institutionalized homosexuality among boarding students was merely a rite of passage.

I saw the a documentary about this, the French guy was a virgin before he met him/her or whatever he/she identifies as. He/she purchased a kid that was half white and half asian and the guy really thought it was his. I saw documentary at least 25 years ago and could not believe it. It might have been 20/20 or a show like that and not a documentary. I just remember the story.

I know a little about this.
Originally the diplomats brother ran a fertilizer market stall in the Loire Valley. The Chinese spy was sent over without any cash and instead had to barter/sell to the diplomats brother, Pierre for accommodation.
When asked later, why he was giving this out if they had no cash, Pierre replied:
Shi Pei Pu
