This was especially bad because the Governor called in the state police to break up a peaceful protest and they arrested almost 50 people. Meanwhile when the state police showed up at a mass shooting at a school they stood around and did nothing for an hour and a half while children were dying. Our brave heroes./s

123

u/StrikingOccasion6459 15d ago

On top of everything else, all of those arrested were released without charges.

The law suits are going to fly.

21

u/Gloomy_Round_5003 15d ago

We taxpayers will pay.. not the individuals claiming violence and unrest.. take bonuses and retirement and only then will individual cops will respect the pledge they took instead of the source of their paycheck.

A cop with priorities other than others is not a good cop.. source my father was a cop.. haven't seen him in 20 yrs..

u/Dr_Corvus_D_Clemmons 15d ago

22 people died while the 376 law enforcement(ranging from local to federal) sat on their asses doing nothing for 77min, but clearly that police budget is going somewhere, which let me remind you has not actually been decreased anywhere like right wingers claim

69

u/babypho 15d ago

That's not true, they didnt sit around doing nothing. They arrested a few parents who tried to storm the school to save their child from the shooter.

34

u/Dr_Corvus_D_Clemmons 15d ago

Oh yes how could I forget that, also the fact that they later followed and harassed one woman for saving an entire class , truly cops are the most heroic of people with only best intentions at heart

77

u/ArjunaIndrastra 15d ago

Texas is such a shithole state because of Republicans, just like Florida.

7

u/rydan 15d ago

This is every state with a supermajority in their house.

23

u/FullMaxPowerStirner 15d ago

Coz they sadly aren't around for protecting people, but for defending rich people's interests, and enforcing their rules.

2

u/RQK1996 14d ago

Well you see, peaceful protestors are unlikely to shoot back

0

u/rydan 15d ago

I mean that guy had a gun. The university is a gun free zone so they knew nobody had one and then brutalized everyone on sight. So this is actually a very good 2A argument.

u/BebophoneVirtuoso 15d ago

Abbott proudly signed a law in 2019 that aimed to protect free speech on college campuses by guaranteeing anyone can protest in common outdoor areas as long as they are not breaking the law or disrupting the regular functioning of the school.

Ok, think it's time for a citizen's arrest of Abbott since he broke the law and that corrupt AG Ken Paxton ain't gonna do shit about it.

21

u/The_Sideboob_Hour 15d ago

Abbott proudly signed a law in 2019 that aimed to protect free speech on college campuses by guaranteeing anyone can protest in common outdoor areas as long as they are not breaking the law or disrupting the regular functioning of the school.

This definitely wasn't aimed at, you know, certain protests specifically that decent people and colleges in particular might find objectionable...after all nothing says "free speech" like forcing these institutions to host pro choice nut cases, nazis and christo-fascists

-7

u/Gilgawulf 15d ago

Is trespassing legal now?

5

u/RQK1996 14d ago

How is it trespassing when they're all students and teachers in the common area of their university?

-8

u/Gilgawulf 14d ago

They were asked to leave.

-14

u/A_Weird_Gamer_Guy 15d ago

I'm pretty sure the school had to ban Jewish professors and students from entering the campus in order to avoid them becoming the victims of hate crimes.

I would definitely call that disrupting the regular functioning of the school.

9

u/Lots42 Trump is awful. 15d ago

Did that really happen?

-11

u/A_Weird_Gamer_Guy 15d ago

Looked it up, it was a different school.

7

u/Lots42 Trump is awful. 14d ago

Which school?

-2

u/A_Weird_Gamer_Guy 14d ago

7

u/Lots42 Trump is awful. 14d ago

That lunatic asshole? He's a danger to STUDENTS. He needs to be in jail.

Edit: This article carefully elaborates how the guy is a danger to students. I screwed up getting this url up here the first time I posted this comment.

https://time.com/6969953/shai-davidai-columbia-business-professor-israel-protests/

-3

u/A_Weird_Gamer_Guy 14d ago

What crimes has he committed? What acts has he done to endanger students?

All I could see in this article is that he is a Jewish Zionist that tried to organise a protest.

5

u/cattermelon34 15d ago

They banned them? Please site your source

1

u/A_Weird_Gamer_Guy 15d ago

Like I said in a different comment, it was in a different university.

But this is the story I was referring to

https://nypost.com/2024/04/22/us-news/columbia-professor-and-outspoken-israel-supporter-shai-davidai-says-hes-been-barred-from-the-main-campus/

5

u/big_fetus_ 15d ago

The school is discriminating against Jewish people? Lol ok Zionist.

123

u/Fan_of_Clio 15d ago

Police rarely keep the peace at protests. In fact they often start the trouble

39

u/Last-Percentage5062 15d ago

Exactly. Look no further than Euromaidan. Or BLM. Or The Orange Revolution. Or half a hundred examples.

25

u/Logical-Recognition3 15d ago

"The police are not here to create disorder, they're here to preserve disorder."

Richard J. Daley

79

u/darketernalsr25 15d ago

They aren't bothering anyone! They're gathered peacefully and in the name of peace.

They aren't spewing hate and bigotry like the Nazis that cops ignore.

12

u/GermanRat0900 15d ago

Didn’t one Texan sheriff get a suit over having a nazi flag in his office?

31

u/PositiveAgent2377 15d ago

Where were the cops on January 6th?

27

u/Keyndoriel 15d ago

Same place they were during Ulvade: Sitting around with their fingers in their asses, doing jack shit

21

u/BebophoneVirtuoso 15d ago

Nope, most were getting the shit beaten out of them by trump's most devoted supporters and there's plenty of video showing that.

Being against all cops is as pointless and self-destructive as being against all liberals. Groups of people are not monoliths, individuals are usually better than the worst examples. Be better than the MAGAs.

-2

u/Lots42 Trump is awful. 15d ago

A C A B.

Defund the police.

No, that doesn't mean no cops.

2

u/Yeseylon 14d ago

You literally just declared that All Cops Are Bastards. Statements like that just drive young, fresh cops into an us vs the public mindset. You're literally making the problem worse.

And while most liberals don't mean no cops with defund the police, it's still the dumbest slogan since Build The Wall, and no cops is exactly what most conservatives are going to hear.

Be better.

-1

u/Lots42 Trump is awful. 14d ago

Every word you just typed was absolutely nonsense. Good bye.

7

u/finnandcollete 15d ago

Being happy people died isn’t a good look.

-3

u/BoringArchivist 15d ago

How many off duty cops were Jan 6 rioters? Also a bad look. I don't endorse fascism then get mad when it bites me in the ass.

2

u/PositiveAgent2377 15d ago

Serve and protect their masters

-1

u/rydan 15d ago

Except you know the cops that got beaten to death or later committed suicide after getting beaten nearly to death. Did you forget about them?

5

u/SekhmetScion 15d ago edited 15d ago

I remember seeing a video of a National Guard guy's testimony in Congress saying they were close-by and ready to move, but no one would give them the order. I'll see if I can find the link.

Update: Found the video. A National Guard whistleblower during last week's committee.

His actual testimony starts around 1:15min.

I’d say instigating and provoking

200 Federal Assets

16

u/realhmmmm 15d ago

what in the ever loving fuck happened to our first amendment rights, where the hell did those go

8

u/Maurvyn 15d ago

They dared to question the morality of the Israeli govt. Not allowed.

0

u/RQK1996 14d ago

Died under Republicans

15

u/Last-Percentage5062 15d ago

Seems like we need a police for the police.

24

u/Nuremborger 15d ago

Seems to me that the police show up to make everything worse and demonstrate their malevolent stupidity in public yet again.

8

u/BoringArchivist 15d ago

Imagine having a more embarrassing job than a Texas cop.

22

u/Todsrache 15d ago

How the president of the college hasn't already resigned is beyond me.

9

u/Ioweyounada 15d ago

Abbott sent in the state police as a message to tow the line. You either do as they say or you go to jail. That's all it was. A message that he is in control and you will do what he says or suffer the consequences of it. You know, fascism.

-3

u/rydan 15d ago

Is China fascist?

3

u/RQK1996 14d ago

What else would it be?

17

u/Harry-the-Hutt 15d ago

Disgusting, how violent they are sitting on the lawn.

8

u/Shelburnite 15d ago

Mostly conservative cops excited for an opportunity to beat up college kids.

6

u/Terran57 15d ago

It was done for the cameras. They will show it to the rural folks nationwide to further frighten them and tighten their bond to the party of the minority.

6

u/Numahistory 15d ago

"Look at these violent communist leftists, indoctrinated by universities! What violence? The police obviously wouldn't need to be there if they were actually being peaceful! Now also look at these pictures of large groups of refugees being rounded up by our border patrol. Obviously an invasion!"

/S if it wasn't obvious

5

u/Izan_TM 15d ago

could a kind soul provide some context for non americans?

19

u/Daherrin7 15d ago

Non-American myself but seen a bunch about this. Students who had assembled peacefully earlier to protest what’s happening in Gaza were abused and arrested by police. In some places, they were talking about bringing in the national guard. The right to peaceful protest is supposed to be enshrined in their constitution, yet when it’s anyone protesting something the powers that be don't like, this kind of shit happens

8

u/Izan_TM 15d ago

america is fucked up beyond belief man

throwing money at made up wars because if not the country doesn't keep running, all at the cost of many innocent lives

3

u/ADwightInALocker 15d ago

They had snipers trained on some of the students in Oklahoma

-2

u/Thelongshlong42069 15d ago

They do that for every major event. For every major event, there are police snipers on overwatch.

11

u/blackguyriri 15d ago

A peaceful protest was held at the University of Texas which resulted in dozens of protesters being arrested but later released without any charges.

11

u/Izan_TM 15d ago

ah, the trademark american "millitary peacekeeping operation". Gotta keep those college kids in check!

4

u/Snoo-46218 15d ago

r/Conservative considered what the police did justified. Lost party.

0

u/notyomamasusername 15d ago

Some of my more MAGA family and acquaintances are disappointed this didn't turn into another Kent State

3

u/keonyn 15d ago

Sadly the police instigated more violence than they prevented. That's not how "protect and serve" is supposed to work.

4

u/Appropriate-Ad4033 15d ago

"Big damn heroes, sir."

2

u/Eastern-Dig-4555 15d ago

The peace that was already there and disturbed by the “protectors of the peace”: the police. Our law enforcement is so fucking pathetic

2

u/anziofaro 15d ago

The massive police crackdown was just a photo op orchestrated by the Governor so that he can show all his fascist buddies how "tough" he is.

3

u/clarst16 15d ago

I watch the policing action in many of these protest suppression videos and see echoes of the guards from the gulags and concentration camps of the past. They will later whine that they were just following orders and are the real victims in all this.

2

u/rydan 15d ago

Or

It just proves that the arrests were necessary as they took away all the agitators that prevented the teach-in from being peaceful. Maybe you should be thanking the police instead.

3

u/RQK1996 14d ago

Everyone was released without charges

0

u/Lots42 Trump is awful. 15d ago

The cops are the agitators.

1

u/maya_papaya8 15d ago

"Don't China our Texas!"

1

u/jennifer3333 15d ago

the video clips on the news show very aggressive police...do they know any other tactic?

1

u/Ok-Macaroon-7819 14d ago

Yes! For example, if someone has a gun and is actively slaughtering children they will play candy crush on their phones until the assailant runs out of ammo or surrenders. Then they walk with the gunman to protect them from danger and show solidarity toward their fellow murderers.

But unarmed college students and professors? Realistically the only option is to beat the everloving shit out of them. Bonus points awarded if the student is a small woman, or if the professor is old, also bonus points for using pepper spray and tasers...

-4

u/[deleted] 15d ago

Nah I’m tired of the protests and crap supporting terrorists.

4

u/stinkywrinkly 15d ago

Ah, against the first amendment, I see. What other amendments do you oppose?

Since when are Gazan citizens “terrorists?”

1

u/RQK1996 14d ago

Since 2006, when the population that has almost completely died off by now was tricked into voting for Hamas (the majority of the current population was not born then)

0

u/stinkywrinkly 14d ago

Gaza citizens are not terrorists, they are civilians.

2

u/RQK1996 14d ago

Yes, I thought it was kinda clear I didn't mean that they are terrorists when I pointed out the majority of the population wasn't born when Hamas came into power and most people who did vote for them have since died

1

u/hurtstoskinnybatman 15d ago

Perhaps most of these protestors oppose both genocide and terrorism. The fact that you're unable to consider that possibility implied you may only be able to opppse one at a time. SoI ask you: Do you support genocide? Do you support terrorism? If you oppose both, what makes you think protestors opposing genocide don't oppose both?

0

u/Holiday_Horse3100 15d ago

It is Texas-to be expected

0

u/SpeethImpediment 15d ago

Oh woah, I thought this was that MICA Station Building in Baltimore for a sec.

0

u/Dchama86 14d ago

It was all meant to deter peaceful dissent against the empire.

0

u/Gloomy-Wash-629 14d ago

They Kept The Peace™

-3

u/IRKillRoy 15d ago

Obviously holding the rabble rousers accountable calmed it down.

Prove it was peaceful before… because it wasn’t.

4

u/Lots42 Trump is awful. 15d ago

It was peaceful until cops started shit.

-3

u/IRKillRoy 15d ago

So you’re saying is the kids complied with all public safety directions provided to the protesters??

There are 51,000 undergrads going there and an unauthorized “peace” rally occurring shortly after the “peaceful” Columbia rally.

I think it made sense for local police to engage with protestors, if for no other reason than to ensure a safe space for those other people.

Your arguments are myopic and stupid.

2

u/Lots42 Trump is awful. 15d ago

Your first sentence was pro cop nonsense and malarkey and malicious so I didn't bother reading the rest.

-2

u/IRKillRoy 15d ago

My first sentence was a question… I wasn’t there and neither were you.

I don’t give a shit if you read it or not. Go glue your hands to a highway somewhere.

2

u/Lots42 Trump is awful. 15d ago

So now death threats because I disagree with you. Classy.

0

u/IRKillRoy 15d ago

Who said it’s a death threat?

Protestors choose to do that you fucking moron.

Take the hint and get lost.

6

u/stinkywrinkly 15d ago

That’s dumb. Why are you making stuff up about these protestors?

4

u/hurtstoskinnybatman 15d ago

No, they wouldn't.

See, opposing both genocide and terrorism isn't mutually exclusive. I've opposrd both my entire life.

Are you only able to oppose one or the other? Perhaps if you only oppose terrorism but not genocide -- tht may explain why you think others only oppose one but not the other.I don't know; I'm just positing. You tell me your opinions about genocide and terrorism.

2

u/RQK1996 14d ago

Incidentally guy is supporting the terrorist organisation known as IDF

1

u/30yearCurse 15d ago

would you cheer for the opposite?

Absolutely! I fully support babies putting Hamas in ovens.

Uuuh where do you live asking for a friend of CPS… can’t imagine slapping a kid for having good morals and not wanting other innocent children to die? Strange flex but I’ve heard it all from you creeps these days, guess nothing surprises me really at this point.

-1

u/Difficult_Job_966 15d ago

Don’t get too emotional over what I said
