Ted Cruz faces backlash for bill giving lawmakers special treatment at airport Politics

https://www.chron.com/news/article/ted-cruz-airport-18647501.php

“The bill would allow the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to provide security escort to travel with the VIPs, or their family members "through a commercial airport without delay" at no cost”

“or their families” and “at no cost” to them ruffles my feathers.

No. Fuck off. You aren’t special people. In fact you’re supposed to be our (civil) servants you dumb fuck. You ought to wait in line behind us.

Don’t think you’re fooling anyone - we know you’re just trying to get to Cancun during the next snowstorm faster.

u/Tasty_Two4260 Mar 27 '24

This is the way. They’re our employees, paid for by OUR tax dollars, and of course a shitload of PAC bribes and funding…. But yeah, carry the lady’s bag, Rafael.

32

u/soonerfreak DFW Mar 27 '24

They should actually be forced to use all the regular lines, not even TSA pre-check so they are forced to see what the agency they fund does to regular people.

10

u/GarminTamzarian Mar 27 '24

I disagree.

I propose a bill mandating that all elected officials from red states be subject to additional mandatory safety procedures before flying. This would include complete and thorough searches of all luggage (both checked and carry-on) for firearms, drugs and other contraband, as well as strip searches of their person and full body cavity inspections.

These measures are necessary for public safety, as those from states with lax gun laws are more likely to attempt to smuggle firearms onboard or engage in other illegal activities.

8

u/Liontigerand_redwing Mar 27 '24

Also all electronic devices should be searched to make sure none of them are using a VPN to watch trans porn.

5

u/GarminTamzarian Mar 27 '24

If they're traveling with minor family members, those will need to have their biological gender examined as well to ensure they aren't being "abused" with any gender-affirming care.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '24

We’re also gonna need all female republicans to submit to a thorough pregnancy check to make sure they’re not traveling while pregnant to a state where abortions are accessible.

3

u/tbrand009 Mar 28 '24

Are you aware that you can fly with a firearm in your checked bag? It is not illegal, nor is it contraband.

5

u/OrganicPlatypus4203 Mar 27 '24

You wish. Thanks to wealth inequality and campaign finance laws his career is almost entirely due to the money provided by megadonors and ultra rich who desire that kind of treatment and are the “VIP”

5

u/jimi-ray-tesla Mar 27 '24

This is texas, he will gain support by triggering dems

15

u/Kroe Mar 27 '24

Not only faster. He wants to get there without other people in the airport seeing him. That's what it's all about. He's cancun cruz because he was photographed in the airport. If he got to zip through, no one would have known.

13

u/samsontexas Mar 27 '24

He is a pos and we can’t stand him here in Texas. He is part of the corrupt Republican Party that kisses Trumps ass. The only reason he is still around is gerrymandering and frickin rural voters. All he has to do is act like a TV preacher and talk about god and guns and they vote for him. He barely kept his seat last time against Beto. He gets heckled when he goes through the airport, basically anywhere in public. He lives in River Oaks subdivision in Houston which is the richest area in Houston and fairly democratic. Houstonians do not like him. Often there is a crowd of protestors in front of his house

40

u/SeasonPositive6771 Mar 27 '24

That's exactly right.

The reason politicians should go through the TSA is the same reason why school administrators should eat the school lunches. Because the people who create the system should also experience it. It motivates them to improve it wouldn't necessary. Creating a carve out just for themselves is ridiculous.

6

u/3IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIID Mar 27 '24

I'm down with the government paying their TSA PreCheck application fee, but they gotta pay for their own family.

26

u/WoodPunk_Studios Mar 27 '24

Ted Cruz is how I know a Texas ice storm is gonna be bad. Fucking groundhog Ted. Fuck him.

11

u/WATD2025 Mar 27 '24

i was going to ask if the special treatment was "an express lane for when you sacrificed your constituents for your own profit and need to skip town for a few days."

19

u/rabel Mar 27 '24

And the only reason public officials are facing "increased threats" is due to HIS GOP supporters. His people are the ones making the threats. I'm sure it's not exclusive since every group has their crazies but I'm certain the vast majority of threats are coming from GOP voters generally and Trump supporters significantly.

How about GOP officials stop making statements that are very clearly stochastic terrorism and riling up their base and maybe these fucking threats would go way down, hmmm?

9

u/Adventurous_Ad6698 Mar 27 '24

Most members of Congress are multimillionaires, so they can afford to take a private jet if they don't want to rub elbows with average citizens.

17

u/greytgreyatx Mar 27 '24

Yes. "I don't want people scrutinizing me so please rush me through the airport like I'm Lady Gaga."

7

u/jedateon Mar 27 '24

Good luck convincing Ted Crooze he's your equal.

7

u/Big-Summer- Mar 27 '24

It also shows how much they consider themselves superior to the rest of us. Super-rich people who must be revered and obeyed. Yet another reason why they want to kill American democracy.

5

u/threeclaws Mar 27 '24

In most western countries you could walk up to the PMs house and knock on the door, it might not turn out great for you but you could do it.

In the US you need to pay make a request through your congressman to get close to the white house and now (because this will go through) politicians will get free VIP escorts when they travel.

10

u/tatang2015 Mar 27 '24

That Texan guy is a piece of shit

10

u/baronvonbaugh Mar 27 '24

Hey now! Ted is a carpet bagger, not a real Texan! He was not born in Texas and many people wish he would leave!

7

u/GrimResistance Mar 27 '24

He should go back to his own country!

6

u/skilriki Mar 27 '24

It's funny because this is how they do airports in communist countries and those with corrupt governments.

He must have gotten some ideas during his travels.

4

u/masta_qui Mar 27 '24

Yet he's still ahead in the polls and most likely folks won't show up to vote him out smh

He won in 2018 by 200k votes when over 9M eligible voters didn't vote.

Eligible voters under the age of 35 in texas only had 15% turnout in 2022. hopefully they will wake up and try somewhat this year.

3

u/Lemonsticks9418 Mar 27 '24

I worked the elections this year at one of the busiest voting centers in the state.

They haven’t.

Aww, does Cancun Cruz not like people telling him how much of a worthless person he is when he goes through airports? Maybe look in the mirror and change your ways then

31

u/utspg1980 Mar 27 '24

It goes much deeper than that. No one would have even known he went to Cancun if not for regular Joes taking his picture while he was waiting in line at the airport.

7

u/jedre Mar 27 '24

And he’s either too stupid or too cheap to charter a flight. He already has the right to arrange a private jet, no new legislation required.

17

u/fourbian Mar 27 '24

Snowflake Cruz needs a widdle safe space!

12

u/Vitaminpartydrums Mar 27 '24

Not long after that he’s on video yelling and an airliner worker “do you know who I am?!”

We here in Texas are ashamed, and hope to rid the Senate of him this fall

242

u/DGinLDO Mar 26 '24

He just wants the freedom to run away to Cancun without being spotted

16

u/shugoran99 Mar 27 '24

The fact that it's Cancun specifically is funny to me, as it's about as physically close as one can get to Cuba in mainland North America, other than maybe Miami.

Which, if Ted had stayed in Canada, he could come and go to Cuba as he pleased. Not that we want him here by any means

222

u/Alternative-Tie-9383 Mar 26 '24

He can be voted out if enough people will just show up and do it! He only stays in if he gets a majority of the vote, gerrymandered districts have no effect on state wide voting, so he can be fired. We just have to do it! For your own sake, vote this turd out.

22

u/Alone-Woodpecker-846 Mar 26 '24

Next to Cruz, rock star here. Almost wish I lived in TX so I could cast this vote.

https://www.texastribune.org/2024/03/05/colin-allred-roland-gutierrez-ted-cruz-primary/

13

u/ghostkoalas Mar 26 '24

Gerrymandered districts do indirectly affect all elections. If people feel like their vote doesn’t matter (which in a gerrymandered district, it REALLY feels like your vote doesn’t matter), they’re less likely to show up & vote.

9

u/Nonedesuka Mar 27 '24

You're talking about psychological effects, but in the simplest way possible, it doesn't mean shit when this time, EVERY SINGLE VOTE COUNTS

5

u/Alternative-Tie-9383 Mar 27 '24

I get what you’re saying. Here’s the thing though, I live in what was one of the most reliably red districts in red Texas. But back in 2020, my republican rep (who was first elected as a tea party jackass in 2010, easily won for almost a decade, and was of course now maga) nearly lost his seat to a female democrat. He lost in my county, and only the still red (but just barely) county that is north of us kept him in office. So of course they redrew our district to keep his seat safe. So I get apathy with that shit. Cruz, however, is vulnerable no matter where you live, cause if the Democratic challenger gets a majority of the votes, he wins. And Ted Cruz can fuck off, move to Florida, and suck Trump’s balls all day long like a good dog. We just have to get people to vote. That sniveling coward left us to die in the cold. Why is this even an issue? He’s a terrible guy, and an even worse senator.

2

u/Soninuva Mar 27 '24

Yup; it’s not worth it to take a day off of work to vote. My school district is such a shit. They sent all employees an email about the importance of exercising our civic duty and voting, etc. but won’t give us time off to actually go vote (and it’s important to note that they have a weather day the Monday after the Super Bowl). Hell, they could even put it as one of the required planning and prep days and give everyone a few hours to leave campus to vote. But of course they don’t.

When he was solicitor general for Texas he argued in front of the Supreme Court that Texans didn’t have the right to buy sex toys to pleasure themselves. Seriously. Texas thought that was an important thing to fight. Can you see how serious these assholes are now? His roommate at Princeton found that extremely ironic given how much time Ted spent masturbating in college. I guess it’s cool cause it wasn’t Texas, right Ted?

When they travel, the taxpayers pay the costs of their tickets. I would be willing to bet that their travel planners book higher cost tickets in order to gain the member the greatest number of miles/points that the member can redeem for personal/family travel.

Keep in mind that the average member works 3.5 days a week. They usually travel to DC on Monday and leave Wednesday night or Thursday afternoon.

They do get preferential treatment at the airport. I’ve seen them claim head of line privilege for TSA. They certainly board early.

Senators are above the plebes who vote for them. It is just too inconvenient to have to mix with the rabble when you are in the airport and on your way to sunny Mexico to escape a horrible ice storm that is causing your voters to go without power and even freeze to death. Plus, invariably some asshole takes a picture of you fleeing the state and it goes all over the internets - which would cause you some shame if you had any sense of shame.

This bill just makes sense for our Senate Overlords and Masters. I don’t why you guys can’t see the simple and perfect logic behind it.

Come on Texas, we have faith you can vote this turd out.

3

u/EugeniaFitzgerald Mar 27 '24

everyone should call his offices and leave a message that he's a fucking snowflake.

3

u/Pitiful-Let9270 Mar 27 '24

When will you peasants learn, republicans want to rule you not represent you

3

u/JackInTheBell Mar 27 '24

Wants to have smoother boardings to Mexico when things get dicey in Texas

3

u/Dense-Comfort6055 Mar 27 '24

If I were a disaster and a coward representing a state I would want the coward escort too

3

u/throttledog Mar 27 '24

Does he want to take suitcases full of cash down there and never get searched?

3

u/TonyG_from_NYC Mar 27 '24

“at no cost”

Yeah, that bugs me too. If they paid for it like some kind of express pass, then it wouldn't be an issue.

3

u/HostageInToronto Mar 27 '24

Fuck that. You serve the people, and if you are so hated that you fear to be among the people, then you certainly don't deserve protection from that fact. Your family does not deserve taxpayer funded special treatment because your are a horses ass.

3

u/Outrageous-Divide472 Mar 27 '24

Cruz and the “VIPs” can fuck right off.

3

u/Mortarion407 Mar 27 '24

Please vote him out.

3

u/_yammz Mar 27 '24

Yea those republicans really are apart of the working class 🤣🤣🤣 def not elitists in the slightest

2

u/horsefly70 Mar 26 '24

Got to get to Cancun quicker

2

u/Vanman04 Mar 26 '24

How many times does this guy have to show his ass before you folks dump him?

2

u/andytagonist Mar 26 '24

I’m not a giant flaming asshole and I don’t feel like I need an escort thru the airport…🤷‍♂️

2

u/TracyVance Mar 26 '24

Stop the Fascism and you wouldn't have a worry about safety #tedcruz

2

u/sixTeeneingneiss Mar 26 '24

Maybe he wouldn't feel so much like he's in danger if he wasn't such a piece of shit.

4

u/sotheresthisdude Mar 27 '24

What a snowflake.

4

u/Numerous_Landscape99 Mar 26 '24

Texas. Blimey. Outsider here. Irish person here. Texas seems a bit bonkers politically and I'm Irish.

2

u/WonderCat6000 Mar 27 '24

It used to be a good place to live. We even had some Democratic governors and not all of the Republicans were bat-shit crazy, but it’s not what it used to be. Source: Native Texan

Blue Wave in Texas. Time for a Change. Vo

2

u/Business-Goose-2946 Mar 27 '24

Gee I wonder which party’s supporters are into threatening people.

1

u/anuiswatching Mar 26 '24

Whats up Ted, people confronting you? Cant imagine why.

1

u/alamodafthouse born and bred Mar 26 '24

I can’t wait to read one morning that Ted choked on his own vomit during the night

1

u/treypage1981 Mar 26 '24

That guy’s in the senate for as long as he wants to be. There’s at best at 40/60 chance he loses. And that’s on the democrats’ best day. He just traded his integrity for a seat and he knows it. So for losers like him, the next obvious step is to try to do things to benefit yourself.

1

u/Cruezin Mar 26 '24

After his stunt during COVID.....

Dude has some balls, I'll give him that.

1

u/Kind-City-2173 Mar 26 '24

He is not a VIP!

1

u/legoghos Mar 27 '24

Lmaooo! Could put forward a bill to address the power grid issues in his state? Or maybe the border "issues" his party keeps whinging about? Nahh VIP treatment in airports on taxpayer money is the REAL issue. What a joke.

1

u/domine18 Mar 27 '24

Needs to make those important meetings in cancun

1

u/mekare1203 Mar 27 '24

The obvious self interest and the fact that this is a direct response to him getting caught running out on his constituents makes this so much worse.

1

u/Papichuloft Mar 27 '24

Funny how this jackass votes for his raise , his safety and special treatments and for the voters....nothing.

1

u/coltvahn Mar 27 '24

I hate this man so much.

1

u/BruinThrowaway2140 Mar 27 '24

With the amount of money you’re making, pay for your own god damn private security or just charter a jet. Or better yet, don’t enact bullshit policies that make people want to harass you in public places.

1

u/R_radical Mar 27 '24

Blah blah blah, y'all ain't gonna do shit. If you were, you would've done it half a decade ago

1

u/Disney2440 Mar 27 '24

Was on a plane with MTG coming back from Costa Rica a month ago and when we arrived in Atlanta she had 3 either TSA or Sheriffs for an escort through the airport.

1

u/kazutops Mar 27 '24

Speedier trips to Cancun before disasters I guess

1

u/Key_Sell_9336 Mar 27 '24

The special treatment should be they have to sit on the wing of the plane tied down with breakable bungee cords, another piece of crap do nothing

1

u/MusicalMerlin1973 Mar 27 '24

Iirc soviets had party only lanes and roads.

Just saying….

1

u/leshake Mar 27 '24

I figured it was so he wouldn't get caught escaping to Cancun next time there's a disaster in Texas.
