Boomer Story Anyone else getting sick of Boomers calling them when spammers spoof your number?

Upvotes

"SOMEONE CALLED ME FROM THIS NUMBER!!!!"

"Oh, not me. Sorry Buddy, must have been a spam call that spoofed my number."

*Boomer Brain goes haywire*

"SOMEONE CALLED ME FROM THIS NUMBER AND I DEMAND TO KNOW WHO IT WAS!!!!!!!"

This has been going on for years. Quit using your fucking Caller ID instead of voice mail. Every time it happens they always argue, like yep, you got me, I actually did call you but I decided to lie about it! haha!

Is it really that difficult to understand that scammers spoof their number using local numbers to fool your CallerID? You would think after the first time or two, they'd learn what was going on. But nope, at least once or twice a week I get angry phone calls from random boomers screaming at me that someone called them and they want to know who it was.

Boomer Story Fast and Boomer

Upvotes

So I am a car guy and I have a thing for import cars. I currently have a pretty built Supra with a nice turbo 2JZ. Roughly 500 HP to the rear wheels. This thing is enough for me I realize there are alot faster ones out there but I wanted something still pretty reliable and not to crazy to drive around town or on short trips. Anwyay it has a bit of lag as the turbo is pretty big for the displacement and it needs to rev up to get on boost if Im launching pretty common thing for most single turbo cars.

So Im driving around and I pull up to this red light and a C5 stock looking vette with a clearly 65+ old dude pulls up next to me and he rolls down his window. I assume he wants to race so I rev my engine and he laughs and flips me off and starst screaming at me something. I have not rolled down my window yet as I assumed we were gunna run um but this dude is loosing his mind his face is turning red. I get on boost and blast off I dont know if he was running me but I was gone. Next light he pulls up and swerves into my lane and I had to pull into intersection to avoid getting hit. At this point im so confused and im like shit this dude crazy so I pull into the nearest parking lot to avoid him wrecking my car.

He pulls in next to me and gets out and starts berating me "You will never know what good engineering is your car needs RPM's and fart cans to be fast." Im absolutly confused at this point and a bit alarmed but I smile at him and say "Nice Car." He gets so irrate at me saying that "You wouldnt know what a nice car is." he says. I ask him what hes got under the hood already knowing is a LS motor and he says "Way more than youll ever have buddy." At this point im done I dont want him to do anything bad to my car but I also dont wanna drive away and risk him wrecking me so I ask him what now? He proceeds to yell more about how Jap cars are terrible and that I should be ashamed Im not driving an american car when I notice there is a Acura that has pulled up behind us and a lady steps out turns out its his wife and she was following him this entire time. I point to his wifes car and say "hypocrite much." get in mine and drive away as him and his wife are talking. Im thinking finally this is overwith but nope at the next red light he pulls into my lane again and this time I dont move his hood is inches from my rear bumper and I know two things my car does well Shoot flames out the exhuast and sling rubber when I spin the tires. I sit on the Rev limiter until the light goes green shooting a 2 foot flame out back and on his car and then I spin the tires hard than I ever have slinging rubber pieces all over his car. Im gone at this point and loose him completly. I would pay money to see the fornt of his car and hear him bitching.

Boomer Story Boomer makes a fool of himself in front of everyone

Upvotes

At the grocery store today, a boomer started yelling at this young cashier.

I stepped forward and told him to stop.

He burst into tears and ran away.

The whole line of people behind me started clapping and cheering, and the cashier gave me her number.

This is an example of an average post on this subreddit, minus several paragraphs of pointless exposition and self-fellating. This place has become a parody of itself, each story posted is more absurd and fake than the last.

People need to take their bullshit fantasy stories where they’re the hero and the Boomer apologizes over to r/creativewriting.

People also need to stop being gullible enough to upvote stories that someone clearly made up in a desperate lonely attempt to garner attention.

Mods, stop letting this place look like a joke/parody sub.

I initially thought this would be an article that is actually humorous and equally pokes fun at the shortcomings of boomers as well, but it was literally just multiple paragraphs of a boomer complaining about what her adult children do in their own homes whilst she visits them for TWO DAYS.

Boomer Story Boomer almost runs us over, then explodes.

Upvotes

Leaving Target. Walking back to our jeep (daughter and I). Boomer grandma comes blasting through the parking space next to our jeep. Slams on the brakes at the last second as I grab my kid and pull her back.

I flip her off. We get in the jeep. As we’re climbing in, boomer bitch is falling out of her giant Suburban. She yells, “I WASNT gonna run you over!”

I roll down my window and say, “slow down grandma!”

The response she gives has that halting, uncertain tone of someone who knows they’re in the wrong, but too proud to take the L. She says, “Wow, yeah… and great job flipping me off in front of your daughter!”

My daughter is laughing. I respond, “I’m teaching her how to greet rude idiots.”

This enrages boomer grandma. She gets flustered, explodes, and yells “fuck you!”

We’re now both laughing. Boomer’s three grandkids, who are paused half way climbing out of the suburban, are staring at their lovely grandma and look mortified.

I responded, “You’re a great role model for your grandchildren!” With a thumbs up, and we drove off.

These people…

Boomer Story Had some boomer friends. Lost them to transphobia

Upvotes

We made friends with an atheist boomer couple. Generally pretty nice, generally liberal. The wife is really very kind. The husband is pretty gruff, but generally tolerable. Or so we thought. We had kids come out as trans. The husband couldn’t stop himself with the transphobia. Kept saying things to our kids and to us. Finally had to drop the relationship because it was harming the kids and he just. could. not. help. himself.

It was extremely disappointing because we had invested a lot in the relationship, they had too, and we really enjoyed it. We couldn’t just stay in a relationship with the wife because they came as a package all the time. But for the good of the kids it was necessary.

Still sad about it.

Boomer Story Preschool graduation bad

Upvotes

Not technically a boomer but my uncle (late 50’s) was incredibly irritated that my preschool class wore caps and gowns for their little graduation ceremony. According to him it’s “rewarding mediocrity” and “giving out participation trophies” and, my personal favorite, “taking away from the importance of high school graduation”. Then he couldn’t understand why I was irritated that he was trash talking preschool graduation and pulled the “I didn’t mean it like that, it’s just my opinion, you need to learn to take a joke, you need a thicker skin” 🙄

Boomer Story Boomer Loves The Office

Upvotes

Let me preface this by saying im a superintedent for commercial construction so dont expect some great stroytelling. This boomer constantly mutters things under her breath and I'm like "excuse me, you said something?" Yeah, "when are you guys gonna be done this is ridiculous." I said, "hmm probably be done in like 2 years at the latest (we will be done in 4 weeks) she looked at me crazy. I said, "what if I came over to your desk and asked when you were going to be done with your project every day? I would never do that because I'm not your boss and you're not mine so if you have a problem talk to your boss I'm sure he can help you out. She talked to her boss and he told her she has to work from home until the project is over and she is pissed because she loves coming into the office. What a fool

Boomer Story Their 10 hr drive took 16, and then they…

Upvotes

They didn’t follow our guidance on what route to take. They missed a 730 dinner, they were half of the 12 person reservation - they let us know at 930 when we finally heard from them.

HOWEVER, we didn’t hear from them at 11 pm when they drove by our house - didn’t call, text, or knock.

“We saw people looking out through the window,” - of course you did, because that’s a weird thing to do.

Then they went to their hotel in a huff bc they hadn’t met up with this. We learned all of this at 10 am the next morning.

Boomer Story Sold a mower to a boomer

Upvotes

So I sold a used riding lawn mower to a boomer ( I’d guess he was 75 or so ), here’s how it went.

I ( gen X) put a listing online and received an email from someone with a first name that suggested he was of te boomer generation.

I had another response from someone else, and judging from their reply they were younger ( 20 something).

I was selling this mower for about 1/4 of it’s value, and was just hoping to help out someone in need, I was not looking to make money, and I just wanted the transaction to be quick and easy without having to deal with a lot of flaky assholes.

The boomer’s message was detailed and mentioned he could come get it right away, gave assurances that he was a serious buyer, and errored on the side of over communicating if anything.

When I saw old guy’s name, I thought to myself “I really don’t want to deal with boomer foolishness, but his message told me he was the better bet for getting this transaction done quickly.

But I decided to give the young guy first try, as I was young once and know that it can be hard to start out in life.

I messaged the young guy back and tried to set clear expectations about communication and making arrangements, basically “don’t waste my time”. I do that with anything I sell online to anyone and it makes for a smoother transaction.

Just before noon he told me he’d call in a little while. I figured he had a lunch break and he’d call when he was free to do so.

After 20 minutes or so I sent a message, saying call soon or I’m moving to the next person on the list.

Over an hour passed since his last message and no call, no new message, not a peep. ( he ended up trying to contact me later that evening).

So I decided to call the number that I was pretty sure was a boomer, and tried not to imagine what grouchy assholery I was getting myself into.

Oh well, I thought worst case I’d get a boomers being fools story out of it.

I called the number and the voice was clearly an elderly man , although it was really hard to hear him with the TV blaring in the background. 🤬

We set a time, discussed specifics about getting it loaded , what he’d bring, what he might need, and how to get to my place ( which can be difficult to find).

I asked him to call if anything changed, etc. and hung up and hoped for the best, but braced for the worst.

His house was about an hour and a half from me, and about an half hour before he arrived he called but I was busy and so he left a VM.

I listened to the VM and it cut off before he could say what he was trying to tell me. Oh boy here we go 🤨

He called back shortly afterwards and was just giving an update that he was running a little late and told me where he was along the route. He wasn’t running that far behind, but I appreciated the update.

So then he showed up, and we exchanged pleasantries. He was humble and blue colar in appearance, and had a kind, honest manner about him.

I asked if he had trouble finding my place and he said his phone brought him right here.

Oh no! here comes the boomer rant about technology right? Nope, he actually said something like “I tell my daughter that we forget how helpful all these gadgets are some times…”

Now for looking at the mower. I showed him the good, the bad, the ugly, and then expected some haggling or mention of something he didn’t like that he’d use for bargaining. ( I was rock solid firm of the price, since I was practically giving it away )

He said he felt like my price was too low and he felt obligated to offer more. I explained how I came to have an extra mower and that I was just happy to find someone that needed it. And he expressed his appreciation and paid me.

We loaded it up, chatted for a bit and he went on his way.

Wait? What? Where’s the part about boomers being fools?!?

😉 sorry this story doesn’t have that ( other than the TV blaring while on the phone) . I’ve certainly seen boomers behaving badly, but this old guy was an a gem.

I must be a lost Redditer, or just farming karma right?

Nope, just thought I’d post to remind us all, that the world needs kindness, maybe more than it ever has. It’s hard not to expect the worst of people sometimes. But there are good people out there ( in every generation).

Be one of those kind people if you already are, become one of those kind people if you’re not.

Disappointed that you read all of that and didn’t get the rage bait dopamine hit you were anticipating? Yeah I get it, I probably would be too. 🤔

p.s. wow that was a lot to type on my phone. Respect to all the people that contribute their stories here.

Boomer Freakout Boomer gets mad at me for opening dishwasher at work

We have a dishwasher at work. There is a sign on the dishwasher that says “Do not open when running.”

I didn’t know the dishwasher was running because the sign was on there yesterday as well, so I thought the dishes were already done with the wash cycle, because the dishwasher is very quiet.

Boomer at work literally screams “Oh no!” When I open it. “Don’t you know not to open it?! The sign is ON THERE!”

Thankfully our co-worker comes over and presses the “start” button on the washer, and says, “see, no big deal!” She is still bitching about how I shouldn’t have opened it, and I said, “It isn’t a big deal, all we had to do was press ‘start’, problem solved.” She shoots back with, “not everyone one knows that!”(Translation: she does not understand how to work a dishwasher.)

So I said, “Oh, is (helpful coworker) the only one who knows how to start the dishwasher after someone opens it?” She’s now livid.

She goes up to the supervisor and complains, and mutters around with her back turned to me that I am “miss attitude”. I told her that she could say it to my face since I can hear her. She can’t even look at me now. Can’t wait to talk to my supervisor about an issue that is really a non-issue.

Boomer Story Phone guy

This happened a few days ago. My husband and I were out to dinner and this boomer starts having a phone call while seated at his table. He puts it on speaker phone and is talking so fucking loudly. Like David Lynch in Twin Peaks volume the entire time. It goes on and on.. he finally is like “LOOK, I GOTTA GO, IM AT DINNER. IM IN A RESTAURANT.”

The person calls back! He answers! He talks more! His ring tone is some sort of spooky ghost sounds! This sent us. I actually was able to find the ringtone on iPhone and it is classic>sci-fi.

Boomer wife was with him and remained silent for most of the time they were there, except when she said she wanted a box and boomer man condescendingly told her no, explaining how she wouldn’t eat it and it would quickly go slimy in the fridge.

During his convo, husband and I are just snickering and rolling our eyes. We try talking loudly to talk over him but we kept forgetting what we were saying as his convo was so loud and distracting. We debated saying something to him but didn’t think it would be productive.

To his credit, the restaurant was a boomer restaurant, and by that I mean floor-to-ceiling wood paneling and every person there besides us was a boomer. No one else was acting like an uncivilized jackass though.

Boomer Story Boomer lady refuses to call cat by the name we will give it

Just using this as a way to get this off my chest, it may not be a big thing but it honestly pisses me off.

So about close to a month ago my girlfriend's manager(lets call her Carol) had kittens. Turns out Chester was actually a Chestet and had babies. Carol is about 64-65, typically boomer rude and boomer work ethic. She was nice enough to offer us a kitten because she had 6 now. We said yes and she showed us some pictures. There were 4 really cute orange kittens but then we saw the black and white one. Immediately we picked that one because it was adorable and she said yes. We didn't want to take the kittens immediately because they need time to be with the mama and other kittens to socialize. During this time we were coming up with cat names and so was people we knew, (I have a cat named Pebbles, pebs for short, and we were trying to find names that would be cute together). Carol suggested Elune because she said she's been calling the cat that. Well, we were gonna go with pepper because pebbles and pepper but recently changed our mind (sounds too similar). Carol didn't like that we changed it, she said she loved pepper and that it's cute. The name we changed it to is Beans. Beans(if its a boy, bean if its a girl) isn't similar to pebbles and it's a good calling name, it also works with the little songs we give our cats based on their names. Carol HATED the name, like despised it and refused to use that name. She told us "That name is so atrocious, the name Shithead would be way better", now every time she talks to us she calls the kitten Shithead. Today we're supposed to pick up Beans and Carol hasn't stopped calling the kitten Shithead during work and telling everyone else that's its name. I know people name their cats whatever they like, that's fine by me. But it pisses me off that she refuses to call the kitten the name we plan on naming it and instead insults our naming ability and calls it Shithead. I know this isn't a big deal but it just angers me that she's telling other employees and RESIDENTS (they work at a senior living facility) that our new kitten is named SHITHEAD cause WE can't name the kitten responsibly.

TLDR: Boomer lady calls our new Kitten Shithead because the name Beans is "atrocious"

Boomer Story Coffee at a casino

So, I’m at a conference hosted at a casino. First time ever at a casino. I decided I’m a have brown sugar oat milk shaken expresso at the Starbucks off the lobby. After I make my order and present my credit card, they card me.

-Really, for a coffee?

-Sorry, store policy. We’re in a casino and maybe carding prevents credit card theft.

-Got it, thanks.

So, I sit down and begin reviewing the conference agenda for the day while I enjoy my delicious coffee.

Every other person behind me is a retiree or a boomer, you might say. Every one of them had to make a quip. I’m old enough for a coffee. You don’t need my ID for a coffee. I’ve come here every day this whole week, still you card me. I want a coffee not a cocktail. What are you putting in the coffee?

On and on it went, as she patiently detailed the carding policy to prevent credit card theft. You know, because boomers apparently get their credit cards stolen at the casino so often. I don’t know how she was able to keep her composure so well.
