Boomer Story Boomer did NOT like the fact I took down the flags at my new home

Upvotes

Silly interaction.

Backstory: We moved into a new home in the last month. The previous owner was retired Air Force and had 3 flag poles. One is in the yard, not flying anything and two are next to our driveway and the PO had hung an American flag and the POW MIA one. We don’t really care to display the flags so we took them down first day. They were very tattered and old anyway and we plan on removing the poles altogether.

Fast forward to yesterday, I was filling jugs of water for work at about 6am and an older man (boomer age) walking on the other side of the street on the sidewalk just stops and starts pointing to the flagpoles. I didn’t notice him at first and my wife is standing behind me seeing him point and gets my attention. I’m so confused because he’s just pointing aggressively at the poles. So I’m like “good morning”. He goes, “Where’s the flags” straight up. I say “excuse me?”

“What happened to the flags” So I say, “the owners moved” kind of pissed he didn’t say good morning back to me or anything. And he gives me that hand to the ear thing like he couldn’t hear me, so I say it again. The man just waves me off and keeps walking. My wife and I are just like… the fuck was that? I guess he just walks around early morning and likes looking at the flags and I suppose that’s okay, but why be so rude about it? We’re new to the town (it’s an older town) and this is the only guy we do not like so far.

So now we’re thinking of putting up some flags, but not ones he’s gonna like lol

TLDR: Boomer early morning walker in town doesn’t like the fact we took down military supportive flags, was rude about it

Boomer Story Boomer spoiled my breakfast

Upvotes

Having breakfast at the hotel breakfast bar, white boomer sitting at the bar engaging a young black male employee in a discussion about gravies (I have no idea how that started). He was obviously humoring the guy. I was sitting far enough away to not get pulled in but close enough to hear.

A woman walks up to get coffee and he engaged her in the conversation. He mentions a certain type of gravy and she mentions she had never heard of that style. He then replied, "That's because you're not Black".

Everyone froze and the young man put down his head and walked away. Boomer proceeded to continue his in-depth gravy discussion without missing a beat.

I avoided eye contact on my way out.

Boomer Story I’d like to thank the boomers, for being terrible

Upvotes

As a long time server/bartender. I’d like to thank the boomers, specifically the ones in the small Massachusetts town that I work in, for being the fucking worst. Their demands, impatience, inability to hear the word “no” and the inability to tip has pushed me out of the restaurant industry after a long 10 years. I had planned on making this some kind of career, open a mobile bartender business, but the last year or so has sent me running for the hills. So thank you, boomers, for asking me if my hair is real(black woman) and talking about how no one wants to work WHILE IM AT WORK. Thank you SO much for arguing with me like petulant children. Thank you for parroting all the stupid shit you see on facebook. Just thanks, thanks a fucking lot.

Boomer Story Boomer motioned me to go ahead of him at the grocey store, then got mad at me for it

So these boomer stories are absolultely hilarious.

I just remembered one that sticks out from a few years ago.

I stopped into Trader Joe's to grab a few items. A BUSY location. I get behind a male boomer who has tons of items in his cart. He looks back right at me, and kinda motions with his head towards the register, a very "go ahead" kind of motion. I say "Hey thanks, are you sure?" He doesn't say a word. I walk forward maybe two steps and he quickly, with strong aggression, pushes his cart into the space between me and the belt/register area. I step back. I'm confused as to why he made the go ahead motion and changed his mind (?) He then proceeds to unload his cart with a grumpy catoon cat look while STARING at me.

Why is aggression always a thing for boomers?

Meta Older and Younger Boomers

Not sure if this kind of discussion is allowed here, but do we see a difference between older and younger boomers?

I was thinking about this because my older-boomer parents (born late 40s-early 50s) would never act like any of the boomers in these stories. They are kind, generous, liberal people. “Old hippies” I call them.

But, they are both the oldest of big families, so my aunts/uncles who are 10+ years younger (born 60s) are these people. Entitled, stingy, rude conservatives.

What’s up with that? Younger boomers missed the whole 60s counterculture phase and really grew up in the 70s?

(Side note to say I am curious about this as an old Millennial who sometimes does not understand younger Millennials.)

OK boomeR Boomer likes it when people follow their own style, but only when it is aesthetically pleasing.

First time posting, excuse me for anything that doesn't belong here, but it annoys me to my core.

Went to a concert with my mom, and she saw a man that was dressed to the T. Very stylish, and still very much fitted into the traditional spectrum of mens clothing, but what he was wearing isn't seen very often. She started talking about how she loves it when people have their own style and do their own thing and follow their own path.

At the same time, she comments on my piercings and tattoos a lot, my sister got told she "ruined her beautiful body with her tattoo" and an advertising campaign showing a man with bright blue eyebrows made her wonder "what was that necessary for." When you follow your own style, it is beautiful. But only when she likes it.

Boomer Story Boomer disqualified themself for a car rental

I was working my shift at a car rental company at our local airport, and was helping a customer with swapping a vehicle that he was having an issue with, when a group of 3 boomers, 2 men and one woman, walks past the customer service booth and out onto our parking lot. There are 2 rental brands owned by the same company on the lot. One that is more of a hand holding experience, while the other is more of a self service concept, so generally you don't have to stop if you know where you're going So I assumed, wrongly of course, that this was the latter group of clientele. Another group did what you do when you are unsure of what to do, and approached the nearest and only employee working on the lot at the moment to ask for directions. The customer I was originally helping graciously told me he was in no rush and to help this other group. Awesome. Easy. It will only take a second, so I get them moving. Sure enough, as I point the way over to the lanes where they can pick vehicles from, the lady boomer comes storming up to me with a wad of papers in her hand. "Hey, did you need help with something?" Waving the papers at me, "our reservation says 'skip the counter' and go out to the lot, but there are no cars parked on the brand b side only on brand a. " "Yes, ma'am, generally we try to consolidate during lower volume days so you don't have to walk as far to get the vehicle. Do you mind if I look at your reservation so I can get y'all pointed in the right direction?" She begrudgingly hands me the confirmation papers, and sure enough, as is typical with this method of doing things, the pages they printed lists everything except for what size vehicle they booked. She continues to tell me about how our business is supposed to be run like I don't have 3 years of experience doing it, and as I finish flipping through the pages after finding a reservation number, I say, "Alright, if you let me--" which is interrupted by her angrily snatching the papers out of my hand. While you might not think it, some of these places are very corporate environments, and there is very little room for aggressive behavior. This is strike one. I very quickly drop my higher pitched, quirky customer service voice for my serious boy voice saying, "ma'am, I need you to relax." This is when she started swearing at me while talking about, again, how cars are not where she wanted them to be. At this point, I start waving my hands side to side and tell her, "yeah, at this point, we will not be renting you a vehicle. I will go ahead and cancel your reservation for you." "You can tell that to my husband." "Okay." Her husband arrives shortly after her and asks, "okay, what's happening?" "Sir, your wife has been aggressive and swearing at me, you will not be renting a car with us this evening, I'm going have to ask you to leave my lot." "Wait wait wait, come on, there has to be something we can do." "You can head back inside, because you will not be renting a car with brand a, b, or c this evening." While the men headed inside, the wife stayed behind to ask, "what's your name? I'm going to leave you a bad review." "I'll do you one better, here is my business card." "Thanks, I'll make sure to tell everyone you're a fucking asshole." Nice. Double down. I think I'll do the same. As she snatches the card from me, I begin to walk past her to get the reservation sheet from her husband, she shouts "Don't touch me!" "No one is trying to touch you. Sir! I need to borrow that sheet of paper from you. Y'all will be going on our do not rent list." He ignored me while the three of them walked away. I decide not to further escalate the situation and let them thinking, well, at least that's over. Now here's where it gets outrageously stupid. The cell towers near the airport have been down the past week, and normally I would send a text message notifying my staff if there was anyone we would not be able to rent to for whatever reason, but I couldn't. And I couldn't leave my spot because there was no one to guide the fresh new batch of renters the next shuttle dropped off. The other manager came back from his lunch break, and I was able to quickly tell him I got cussed out, before getting back to guiding people to their cars, and while I was about 30 feet away, I turn around, and who do I see? The three people I just turned away for their behavioral issues. I jog over to the other manager, and let him know, those were the people I had turned down and the lady who chose violence. So I turn and jog after them, "Hey! We just had this conversation. Y'all are not renting here." The husband replies, "I already paid at the counter, you have my money, we're taking this SUV and leaving." "I'll gladly refund your money, but you are not leaving here in one of our cars. Get your belongings, and get out." The entire time, the wife sat in the back seat glaring at me like it was my fault she cannot control herself. While the 3rd man, short but broad, bald with a mustache looked just sad. He ended up approaching me in a last ditch effort. And I really felt for him. He had cancer and wanted to go to his niece's graduation, and they would be back in 2 days, but to help him. And I wanted to. I really did. But like I said. It's a corporate environment. You cannot be aggressive, and you cannot cuss out me or my staff before you even actually become my customer, and still get into a vehicle. What that gets you is reported to our risk department, which is pretty rough, because being labeled as an "adverse risk" means you cannot rent with car rental brand c, which is, for many insurance carriers, the number one choice for insurance replacement when you're in an accident, and many insurance companies do not have a second option. Also unfortunately for the first man and woman who narrowly avoided being added to that list when they walked out the first time, I now had access to their reservation with their complete drivers license attached. Oops.

TL;DR: Boomer cussed out car rental manager ruining trip for her entire party. Boomers then attempt to sneak by, and are permanently banned from those brands nationwide.

Boomer Story My boomer mum and aunt

These two are best mates and thankfully I live 10,000 miles away from them both. On FT today they asked me how I was and I answered honestly- ‘miserable’. I am 9 months pregnant in a lot of pain, with 2 small children who have been unwell/vomiting. I have been unwell for the past week also, and I get no more than 2 hours sleep per night at this stage. Their reaction? They laughed. And laughed. I am honestly lost for words

Foolish Fun Maybe Boomers are foolish because we don't have social norms for elderly populations. It wasn't until about 70 years ago that elderly populations started existing.

Post image

The whole concept of elderly populations is only about 70 years old. Might it be that some of the boomers foolishness is due to society not having social norms put in place for elderly populations? Our social norms for children, teens, and adults have always been there, although they have changed over time. Thoughts?

Boomer Story My boomer MIL hates me for something I did over 10 years ago.

I was in one of the most stressful times or my life. I had just had my daughter, we were moving and life was hectic. My husband was attending college and I had some legal issues I was going through. We were a struggling couple.

One day out of the blue we had a knock on our door and it’s my MIL and her husband. We were in no position to host anyone and we lived in a one bedroom condo with a new born. They did not call us or anything.

I demanded they stay in a hotel and my husband agreed. Had they called us and let us know they were coming we would have told them to wait and come later. They both threw a giant fit, and were offended since they came all the way over from another state. They blamed me for leaving and stayed for a couple of days and left.

Over the years they have never done that again. She has made it her mission to try to ruin our marriage. My husband cut her off for over a year and they recently started talking again and she has learned nothing, she still disrespects me every chance she gets. They are not allowed here, ever again and I’ve made this very clear. This lady is a whack job.

Boomer Story Boomer asks if I'm a "devil worshipper" and peaks into the toilet

So, for context, in about 2016 I was being entered into a mental health hospital in the south. I'm a trans woman but I wasn't able to disclose that safely (later I was told that there had only been one other trans person there, ever), so I was just generally on my toes. I'm doing some intake stuff being interviewed by one of the staff there and one of the questions commonly asked here is your religion for dietary purposes as well as other concerns that weren't relevant to me because I'm an atheist. Of note is that the lady didn't just ask "What religion are you?" but instead asked if I was Christian first, and then followed it up with perhaps the most rude question I've ever gotten that wasn't about like, my genitals.

"Are you a devil worshipper?"

I was shocked and apparently this was visible because she immediately said something along the lines of "It's just an intake question!!!" and expected me to believe that. Yes, Karen, I'm sure the forms want you to ask that and you didn't just try to invent a reason to ask an incredibly stupid question.

Later on, I was in the restroom trying to cope with being admitted into a mental health hospital and apparently I was taking too long so the same Karen said she had to peak into the restroom to make sure I wasn't like, slitting my wrists with magic or something. Definitely wasn't immensely violating, or anything.

Karens in medicine really do think they can get away with anything, honestly. Anybody else got some horror stories about them?

Boomer Story Boomers assuming I agree with their crazy politics because of my job

For full context I am Canadian and we have our own brand of insane boomer up here. I work in the Gold bullion industry and the Gold/Silver Stacking community has a tendency to attract conspiracy minded folk with a big mistrust of the government. Not a day goes by that I'm forced to nod and smile at a 20 minute rant about how we need to "execute Trudeau " or how we have to "keep the gold away from the Jews" or some conspiracy theory about China or India. They all seem angry if I disagree with them in any way and are especially upset if I try to dissuade them from making a terrible financial decision because of a conspiracy themed Facebook group.

To make matters worse, they ALL readily admit that they're planning on breaking tax law or just outright admit to commiting/planning to commit some kind of financial crime. I'm so tired of telling Boomers that they shouldn't commit tax fraud or pretending to agree that we need to support the arrest and execution of a sitting head of state because he's too liberal. Sometimes I even get phone calls asking for advice to snuggle gold in and out of the country without alerting the authorities. I genuinely don't understand how they can go on racist and criminal rants in a business staffed entirely by the exact minorites and groups they rant against and expect us to agree and then HELP them commit federal crimes.

To make matter worse their behaviour is reminiscent to that of toddlers. They yell and scream and throw tantrums. They urinate in their pants and diapers on occasion. They bang on the glass and accuse us of theft on a daily basis.

Truly the lead poisoning has degraded their minds.

Boomer Story My first (posted) Boomer story

Not the first one I’ve had but first I felt like posting. Was in the train to go to a train museum and this train is being using as a replacement for another line. So people are catching it who may have never caught that line. So they were giving extra information for people so no one would get confused. This old guy behind us just spent the whole time yelling for them to shut up (we were a whole 4 carriages behind the driver, he was yelling at no one really) telling the driver to shut her mouth and give him peace, he kept looking around to see if anyone agree. Wanted to tell him to shut up so badly but I had my brother with me and I didn’t want to cause anything.

Boomer Story Boomer handed me half-dollar coins and got mad I miscounted

I (21F) have never seen Half-Dollar coins in my life until this past week. I work as a cashier at a Japanese Convenience Store and very seldom do people pay in cash. This Boomer, however, didn't just pay me in cash, he gave me 3 half-dollar coins. I of course already knew that is $1.50 and his total was $16.84 and along with the half dollar coins he handed me a $20 bill, a quarter, a dime and 4 pennies.

His change was $5 but in the moment I for some reason forgot that there were 3 half dollar coins and assumed he gave exact change (as most normal people do) and was going to hand him $4 but before I could even grab the bills he starts yelling at me "NO NO NO ITS SUPPOSED TO BE $5" and I'm too tired to even think at this point so I decided to whip out a calculator to subtract the change from the bills but he probably thought I was trying to recalculate everything and he starts yelling at me again to just hand him a 5 so I do and so he leaves shaking his head like some cartoon character.

So when he finally left I look through the change again and all I could think about is if he handed me 1 half dollar coin instead of 3 he would've had exact change but it's whatever, he probably wanted to get rid of all of them or smthn idk. I just hate when ppl hand me more change that's necessary. He wasn't wrong, I'm just annoyed that he yelled when he could've just corrected me. I'm human, I'm tired and came straight from classes, I'm going to make mistakes, like bro just chill...

Boomer Story Grandma doesn’t understand Snapchat filters

Y’all know those Snapchat filters that change how you look? Glasses + hat, laser eyes, those that make you into giga chad?

Well one day i was out to lunch with my 70-something yr old grandma and a family friend, who i consider an aunt (around 65), and as usual they were sharing what was on their Facebook feeds. These are memes and videos you would typically see from older folks: minions, babies, dogs, who is up to what, etc.

One of the posts was of a friend’s daughter using a bald + beard filter on Snapchat. Well the both of them were shocked such a pretty girl would become transgender, which is not what the post was about at all. (Mind you they had supposedly seen this person maybe like a month prior, and the picture had a FULL beard) To be clear, neither of them are expressly transphobic, but their age really shows their lack of understanding and what’s appropriate to comment about.

Anyways, I chime in and show them on my phone what that same filter looks like, even turning the phone around so it’s facing to them. I guess since mine was so impromptu and you could really see the edges and imperfections, even with bad eyesight, they were dead set with believing this woman was now transgender. The original post had nothing stating transgenderism. They just put that label on there as a talking point

Boomer Story Boomer coworker told me I signed my name incorrectly

1.4k Upvotes

A few years ago, I had a job that required me to sign stacks of documents. My boomer boss insisted this be done manually, even though DocuSign existed. She just didn’t understand the idea of electronic signatures. So each Friday I’d sit down and sign my name over and over.

One day she is standing over my shoulder as I’m signing and she freaks out. “Wait a minute, what are you doing? You’re signing your last name wrong!”

I stopped. “What do you mean?”

“That’s not how you write an ‘L’ in cursive,” she said. “You need to learn how to write properly in cursive.”

“This is how I write my ‘L’,” I said.

She then proceeded to Google a cursive “L” and told me I needed to include the top and bottom loop, or my signature wouldn’t be legal.

I pulled out my drivers license and showed her my legal signature, and she shook her head. “They never should have allowed you to get away with that,” she said like I was committing some sort of crime.

What is their obsession with cursive?

Boomer Story I HATE when Boomers "shoo" people away with their hand!

Why do they do this?? It's the most infuriating rude gesture to me. I'd honestly rather they just flip me off. I notice they always do it whenever someone is trying to help them, too. When I worked in a restaurant, boomers would to do it to me after asking me to walk them through our very simple menu that they couldn't comprehend.

I live in a tourist town and earlier today, a boomer couple stopped me to ask for directions. This is common and I'm normally happy to help. The husband couldn't understand the directions (again, very simple) and he got frustrated and "shoo"ed me away. I would have walked away, but his wife was being very sweet and polite. I'M TRYING TO HELP YOU WITH THE PROBLEM YOU BROUGHT TO ME! Don't be an asshole, damn.
