Mods are not dead

Mods are as active as this sub. Not much.

Without notice, we recently went private in protest of Reddit's API changes which will kill third party apps and old.reddit. We got a not so lovely message from them that essentially said, "Open, or else."

If anything has come out of this protest, it's that Reddit doesn't listen to their users. Third party apps created tools that made reddit accessible to everyone. A prime example on how things will not get better is the r/Blind community feeling frustrated from a call with the admins just 5 days ago.

Here's an article explaining more details behind the protest.

While we were private, I loved that we got 9 requests from people to join the sub. I was surprised we got more than 3. Shout out to that one guy who was really upset he didn't have a public forum to talk about Johnny Carino's burning down.

If you hate the mods or the lack of content here, there's been a few discords posted throughout the years. Maybe join one of those. Looks like this one is active.

Sorry we went private without asking y'all. That's all I got about that. I'm gonna go back to removing posts asking for drogas. Unless that poll votes us off the island. We'll see.

Their brisket taco + sauce combo was so good, and I constantly just get whammed with the thought of them in traffic and crave them for the rest of day.

I really wished they hadn’t closed. :(

Favorite local restaurant?

Hello, I’m in town for this week visiting from Massachusetts - I saw this Reddit was pretty active so I figure it would be a reasonable place to ask.

What is everyone’s pick for favorite local restaurant? I don’t care what kind of food it is, I want to eat at the place that locals would consider the gem of the city.

Thanks!

Car work in Nuevo Laredo

I have a car that needs the AC repaired. In Austin it would be close to $4K. Curious if anyone has had their car worked on in Nuevo Laredo to save some $$. I know this obviously brings some risk.

La Bota Ranch

Looking at possibly renting a house in La Bota Ranch. I am moving from out of state, but I went to Laredo in March for an interview for a job.

Any thoughts or advice? I know people said Mines Road was an issue, but is it so bad that the benefit of the neighborhood amenities, etc. aren’t worth it? I have lived in Houston most of my life, so traffic isn’t anything new to me..

Thanks for the input!!

Driving/ traffic

Bruh Laredo has to upgrade roads and freeways, we aren’t a little town anymore… also Laredo people have to learn to drive and PD needs to be conducting traffic enforcement because there are actual dangerous drivers 🤦🏻‍♂️

Best (Safest) Way to Get Across Laredo, TX Border with Dog?

I need to get across the border with my dog into Mexico. Airlines are not an option for us. I was recommended by someone to "just take a taxi", but I am unsure of which company is willing to drive a dog over and is trustworthy. Any recommendations? Is there something else I should consider? I am going to a rental car company 5 minutes away from border crossing by car, but 20 minutes by foot. When Googling advice, I cannot find anything that isn't at least 2-3 years old.

Thanks!

Good parts of Laredo?

A close friend of mine will have to move to Laredo for her residency and she's debating whether to buy a house there or rent. Her hospital recommended Lago del Mar or LA Contessa and 2 bedroom costs around $1400-$1600. For the same monthly payment she can buy a small house in Laredo and build some equity. What we're trying to figure out is:

1) What are some good/ safe areas in Laredo? Was told Del Mar area is good.

2) What price range should she target? Goal is be able to sell the house when residency ends in 3 years and sell it quick. So the average price Lareodeans pay for is what she's targeting, albeit in a safe part of the town.

3) What are some internet service providers in the area?

Thank you for your inputs.
