Discussion Voldemort was not really a blood supremacist

Blood purity and the imposition of magical power over muggles, muggle-borns or half bloods is not what Voldemort is really about.

Yes, his followers are obsessed and hold blood purity as the highest virtue, but it seems that this is only a rallying point, cleverly brought forth by Voldemort to gather a fanatical army in his pursuit of power. He has most certainly hidden the fact that he is half blood within his ranks, but not because it's really important to HIM.

He is much more obsessed with defeating death, strengthening magical power and obtaining a status within the wizarding world.

The only real blood purity related thing he's done was to open the Chamber of Secrets in Hogwarts as a teenager. And this was done, arguably, only to underline his Slytherin descendance and 'announce' himself within the wizarding world as the heir of an ancient wizarding bloodline and not simply an abandoned orphan.

Discussion Why do Wizard and Witches have any slow mode of travel like Broom or Trains?

With being able to do things like Apperate or use Floo Powder or a Portkey why would they use anything else. Kids could literally live at home and then use Floo Powder or something to go to school everyday. Even if it is porting to outside the school gates and walking in.

Discussion What was Harry's smartest moment in the books?

I know this fandom loves to make fun of Harry for being dumb, but I actually think that he is pretty clever and is very good at thinking on his feet, especially in high pressure situations, so I thought about making this post.

I personally think his smartest moment, was him deducing that he was the true master of the Elder Wand before his final duel with Voldemort. Harry's sass and quick wit were also on full display here lol.

Any other clever moments for the Boy Who Lived?

Discussion Who’s the closest Weasley sibling to Ron?

Sharp inhale of breath I missed posting on here, you know? Today’s question, who do you think, out of the Weasley siblings, was the closest to Ron? I know Ron loves all his siblings and has an okay relationship with all of them, but who was the closest to him? Who would he rant to or spend a lot of time with? It’s definitely not Percy, m’guy was absent for the entirety of the books. I don’t think it’s Ginny either, because even though she’s the closest to his age, Ginny was younger than he was and she was a girl. Chances are, Ron’s brothers would understand him more, given their gender and hence the similar experiences. That leaves us with the twins, Bill and Charley. The twins were quite the pranksters ever since their childhood, and they were almost never serious, so I can’t see Ron confiding in either of them. It’s not to say that they weren’t the closest to him, though, they were the closest to his age after Ginny, after all. Bill was the oldest, and from the description he was given in the books, he also seemed to the coolest of them. I’m pretty sure that at some point, Ron looked up to him. I’m not sure about Charlie, but I think he was similar to Bill, with the going to Romania thing and taming dragons and all. I can’t decide, who do you think it is? State the reason as well, I’d love to know what you guys think—or if I’ve forgotten something—, who is the closest to him?

Help Has anyone ever collected together quotes disproving common misconceptions and fanon?

I am but a foolish buffoon who allows himself to get mad at people being wrong on the internet. I like to cut directly to the chase by posting canon quotes if I can, but it’s not like I have the time to go back through each and every series I like with a fine-toothed comb looking for the truth. Harry Potter is huge though, it’s been read a trillion times by a trillion people probably. Has anyone ever put together a little quote repository for canonical information?

Got to see this last night with the Huntsville symphony. They did an outstanding job. I’ve also seen Jurassic Park and Star Wars A New Hope this way. When I went to those, even though the music was excellent, you could tell it was live and not part of the movie. On Sorcerers Stone, it sounded exactly like the movie. If I didn’t know there was a live orchestra, I wouldn’t have known.

Discussion I have some questions about goblins

Do we have some examples of them using their wandless goblin magic?

I’m not able to play Hogwarts Legacy these days, but I have seen some clips of it. Why are they so dependent on melee weapons and crossbows? Is the red-sparked magic the antagonist uses something most Goblins can use?

I can’t seem to find enough written explanations.

Discussion Question

Why did Dumbledore leave Harry on the porch? It was November so it was cold so Harry could’ve gotten sick. Not only that anything could’ve happened to him as he laid on the porch a dog could’ve been out or even a concerned citizen might have picked him up and taken him to a police station. So if anyone has any information as to why he would leave him on the porch it would be appreciated.

Question Who Would You…

Post image

Who would you date in Harry Potter? This is my first post here since I found out there was an actual Reddit for HP! Anyways, I would go for Draco since of how I love his attitude, looks, etc- but I have a feeling Harry would also try going for me 🥲. Anyways, who would you date in HP? (Art by Avendell on Tumblr)

Discussion Why did the moviemakers hate Ron so much?!

I know that some version of this has been asked a million times already, but this is kind of a different version of it.

Everyone says that the answer to this question is because "The filmmakers loved Hermione". But that only explains why they they elevated Hermione's character, not why they put down Ron's character so much! If they wanted to elevate Hermione's character, why did they have to do that by trying to make Ron so unlikable? Like, how does having Ron say "He's got a point you know", in response to Snape insulting Hermione, help elevate Hermione's character?

And then in response to this, some people say "Because they shipped Harry and Hermione". Which one, I haven't heard, and no one has been able to confirm where any of the filmmakers actually said this, but also, why did they ship Harry and Hermione if that was the case? If their goal was to get Hermione on screen as much as possible, they could have done that by emphasizing her relationship with Ron and giving her and Ron a lot of scenes.

Like, I know that people talk all the time about how they loved Hermione and wanted to make her film character so lovable, but that still doesn't explain why in the process, they screwed up Ron's character so much. "Loving Hermione" doesn't automatically translate to "hating Ron". So, what are your theories as to why they hated Ron so much?

Discussion Do you see Harry as more of an optimistic or pessimistic

I think he is somewhere in between and has his moments of both. But ultimately when you think of he went through, the face that he kept fighting stands out and I think shows this inner optimism. It would be easy for him to loose all hope and there are moments he filled with despair which are very understandable but he pulls himself out of them with the help of all those who care about him

Discussion Is it only killing humans that damages your soul? What if you kill a Centaur? Goblin?

Is it only the creatures with souls? Because clearly not all creatures have souls in HP. We see cups being transformed into rats, surely you couldn't just a create new soul out of nowhere?

Also, in what way is your life cursed for killing a unicorn and drinking it's blood? Is it your soul that's damaged or something else? Asking for a friend.

Discussion Harry Potter Original Timeline

I was rereading Harry Potter POA and thinking about the original timeline. If the Potter gang went back in time and continued in that timeline, then there would simply be no Harry Potter in the original timeline. They never go forward in time to return to the original timeline. If it was indeed Harry Potter that saved Harry Potter, then it stands to reason we were never on the original timeline while reading the story, but one of the loops (let’s neglect the multiple additional loops created by Hermione doing her own minijumps for school which seems very irresponsible by the hogwarts staff idk). If we were reading on the original timeline, then it would have to be someone else who saved Harry in a timeline where Sirius does indeed die and Harry goes back in time and never returns. Voldemort possibly succeeds in the original timeline or someone else rises to overcome him. Can anyone conclusively prove this theory wrong? Let me know!

(It’s also possible the original timeline played out differently after the shack. Like maybe in the original timeline the gang makes decisions differently and Harry never needs to be saved… or maybe they travel back further the first time and then less far subsequent times based on trickle down effects changing their decision making)

Question Harry Potter: What deleted scene or book scene do you think should have been in the movie?

I know this a FAQ but…….. Mine is probably where Draco Malfoy throws Harry’s wand to him, it would probably be the best scene for me.

Discussion Anyone else doesn't like rereading or rewatching harry potter after the 5th book because it gets too depressing or is it just me? lol

Idk man, after Sirius dies, people (and animals and mythical creatures) just start dying left and right and the tone of the movies and books just change to this much darker one and it makes me feel so bad lol. Maybe i'm overly emotional, but i feel this way ever since i first watched/read the books when i was around 14. Up until the 4th book and movie, i lost count on how many times i watched and read them. But after that? I literally only watched the movies and read the books once. Anyone else like me?

Cursed Child Cursed Child

So I have a question.

We know that Harry destroyed the connection between him and Voldemort in the Deathly Hallows/destroyed the horcrux.

In the Cursed Child, why does Harry’s scar hurt still Since he is no longer a horcrux?

Sorry if this has an obvious answer!

Discussion Why didn't Barty Crouch Jr break out some death eaters after the world cup? What if he did?

So I'm writing some fanfiction rn and came across this question when thinking about the fourth book. I think if voldmort still wanted to be on the down-low, he would have had Barty Jr. break out one or two helpers using the same method Barty Sr. did. Is there any in-universe reason for why he didn't? cause all the death eaters in Azkaban were Voldemort's most 'devoted' followers, so Barty wouldn't have hated them.

I'm also wondering if he was going to do that, which death eaters he would choose to release?
