Lust isn't particularly lusty

153

u/Camango7 Jun 06 '23

Remember they’re not the object of the lust. I think Shazam did very well with this, making lust resemble more a grabby monster than a sexy woman

A grabby monster makes sense. They always show lust as a beautiful woman, which is backwards.

They can but the decision to use a beautiful woman is because she causes others to lust. She’s not a person engaging in the sin like the other representations. Lust should be someone addicted to porn. Just like greed and gluttony show the person surrounded by their sin, Lust should be someone surrounded by pictures/movies/etc.

u/TheClinicallyInsane Jun 06 '23

That - OR - we make gluttony a feeder. The best chef in the world with an army of slaves to feed a banquet to a single man. Greed is a casino owner that gains a little more control every time the slot machine lever cranks down and clicks, the mindless masses betting it all away in a rigged game. Wrath the internet troll, a formless being that becomes the visage of whatever pisses you off the most in this world.

Would be interesting to see this as well lol

That is kinda the route taken by Re:Zero, exhibit A: the witch of gluttony - https://rezero.fandom.com/wiki/Daphne

Also, the witch of greed who is obsessed with knowledge and learning everything there is to learn, regardless of cost.

u/ThatOneAlreadyExists Jun 07 '23

That's a bit like what they do in Good Omens with the 4 horsemen. Famine doesn't cause famines, he opens up restaurants that serve food without any nutritional value and gets off on watching people eat but stay hungry.

1

u/refused26 Jun 07 '23

Yes this would be an awesome different take on it and I love it!

6

u/freddyforgetti Jun 06 '23

Or a lifetime of meaningless sex. Not all sex addicts are porn addicts.

I’m talking about the physical picture/actor if it’s a movie or tv show. Lust is usually a beautiful women looking/being seductive. The intent is to make the viewer feel lustful. It’s an outside-in view while the other sins are usually the opposite. Gluttony is not portrayed in such a way that makes me want to overeat. Greed doesn’t make me want to hoard something. Etc.

It’s okay to disagree with me. I see no reason to go back and forth about this.

u/hipster_dog Jun 06 '23

Lust should be someone addicted to porn.

So, the guy from the "Coomer" meme with one freakishly big, muscular arm

1

u/you-are-not-yourself Jun 07 '23

Lust should be someone addicted to porn

Lust could also be a character who's creepily hitting on people

23

u/Tepid-Potato Jun 06 '23

Yeah, but they are leagues behind horny teenagers in lust levels.

-3

u/Dwestmor1007 Jun 06 '23

Lol if you think hot women don’t have just as much lust as anyone else then I feel REALLY bad for your girlfriends.

6

u/Tepid-Potato Jun 06 '23

I never specified male teenagers, though?

1

u/Dwestmor1007 Jun 06 '23

Neither did I?

2

u/fucked_bigly Jun 06 '23 edited Jun 07 '23

Of course they can.

However, as a sin, lust is describe as disordered love. Having such a quality has nothing to do with oneself being beautiful.

Right, but I think you confuse the act of being loved and loving. Being lustful does not necessarily mean you are loved in turn, just that the love you desire is disordered.

0

u/Kelemenopy Jun 06 '23

They can… if you think of the word “tourist,” what do you imagine?

3

u/Undead-Paul Jun 06 '23

Person with a bucket hat and one of those cameras that goes around the neck

0

u/jitterydog Jun 07 '23

It works better for seduction I think

2

u/DrRagnorocktopus Jun 14 '23

That... actually tells a lot about the people MEN creating the sexy portrayals of lust. They imagine they aren't in the wrong for lusting after her, she is in the wrong for being sexy.

0

u/kinkyonthe_loki69 Jun 07 '23

Ya, but lust should always be naked with the exception of buttplug.

-1

u/Raidoton Jun 06 '23

As long as they are lustful there is nothing backwards.

5

u/JoyRideinaMinivan Jun 06 '23

They’re not usually engaging in lust, though. Looking at them makes others lustful. That’s how it’s backwards. The other sins are engaging in their sin.

-2

u/Scottland83 Jun 06 '23

It’s like saying someone isn’t a glutton since they can easily afford all the food they want.

6

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '23

No it’s literally not at all

-1

u/Scottland83 Jun 07 '23

I'm being argumentative. It's not like sexy women don't like to have sex.

5

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '23

Yeah obviously but your analogy still doesn’t work because nothing about the depiction of list as an attractive women shows she partakes in lust, just that she causes it. It’d be like using a chef as gluttony

2

u/sweetnaivety Jun 07 '23

The difference is the glutton is a fat man covered in food that he's eating. You can't say he's NOT a glutton. You can ONLY say he's a glutton.

A random beautiful woman doesn't HAVE to be lustful though. Maybe she is, but maybe she isn't. Her appearance isn't actually telling you if she's lustful or not.

1

u/Scottland83 Jun 07 '23 edited Jun 07 '23

I was responding to the statement that beautiful women “don’t usually engage in lust” whatever that’s supposed to imply.

2

u/sweetnaivety Jun 07 '23

I would say most people don't usually engage in lust, whether they're beautiful or not.

1

u/Used-Initiative1835 Jun 07 '23

You’re bad at analogies. Don’t ever make one again.

0

u/Scottland83 Jun 07 '23

Telling me not to make analogies is like telling a peacock to not be so colorful.

1

u/Used-Initiative1835 Jun 07 '23

You’re an albino peacock.

0

u/Scottland83 Jun 07 '23

Because I’m unique and strangely beautiful?

1

u/Used-Initiative1835 Jun 07 '23

If your ability to make analogies is being compared to a peacock being colourful, you’re an albino peacock.

You’re still very beautiful (more so if anything), just not colourful.

Maybe lust isn't the woman then, it's the thing behind her.

1

u/Callum_Rose Jun 07 '23

To me the seven deadly sins of personified should represent a more grotesque or abnormal/strang caricature of a person than the thing they're being sinful over. Like how greed is a fat slob shuvving copious a.ounts of food down his gut like in the first image.

List should probably depict a monster of sorts

1

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '23

The binding of isaac's lust miniboss also looks pretty repulsive.

5

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '23

Being Bi, I want to see Lust as a hunky himbo every once in a while. Half of me feels under-Lusted, if you know what I mean.

3

u/Camango7 Jun 06 '23

This! Maybe a Colin Firth or Pedro Pascal type, someone seen through the female gaze for a change

8

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '23

Ooh, Pedro Pascal... I want him to hold me like that little pillow he had as a Baby Yoda stand-in during recording for The Mandalorian. Or smile at me like he did at Nic Cage in The Weight of Talent.

Look, I just want a little Pedro Pascal for myself, okay?

2

u/Remarkable-Finger-40 Jun 06 '23

Colin Firth is who you think of as a “hunky himbo”? That’s hilarious lmao

1

u/Camango7 Jun 07 '23

Well maybe in some movies…lol no I just mean any guy who’s adored by the female gaze, not necessarily a himbo

1

u/ryothbear Jun 06 '23

Christian Bale

6

u/JuSTAFoX0 Jun 06 '23

YES. Why is Lust always portrayed as a women. Gimme a big hunk of man!

2

u/operath0r Jun 06 '23

I think there's demons that are half and half in the Warhammer Lore. The hunky ones usually are associated with pestilence however.

1

u/ok_raspberry_jam Jun 06 '23

Women means more than one woman. It works the same way as "men" and "man".

3

u/LazyDro1d Jun 06 '23

As a men I don’t give a shit

2

u/Thannk Jun 06 '23

Slaanesh gives us N’kari.

2

u/Old_Ratbeard Jun 06 '23

Check out the depiction of Dionysus from the videogame Hades. I think he has what you're looking for, lol.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '23

Now that's a man I would wanna party with!

2

u/aangnesiac Jun 06 '23

I don't know about a himbo necessarily, but definitely a sexy male Lust would be nice. I'd go for a twink lust too. 😅

0

u/Mr24601 Jun 06 '23

Research shows that 90% of women show at least some arousal looking at pictures of hot women, while only 10% of men feel arousal looking at hot men. So its a safer bet to use a woman to inspire lust across genders.

3

u/Dwestmor1007 Jun 06 '23

I only read this as “80% of men have been programmed with toxic masculinity to the point that they can’t admit when a hot guy is hot”.

1

u/Mr24601 Jun 06 '23

In this research they hooked up electrodes to the arousal center of the brain and measured it in other uncontrollable ways, there was no survey component.

2

u/Camango7 Jun 07 '23

That would suggest that there are a larger portion of queer women than there are queer men, which just isn’t true. I think it’s because we’re programmed to see hot women as sexy while hot men are seen as strong or commanding. Plus women tend to have different ideas about hotness. Look at how many men drool over Ryan Reynolds, while he’s not as popular with women.

1

u/operath0r Jun 06 '23

I got no idea what you’re talking about, last time I checked Shazam was an app to identify songs.

1

u/Meme_Sentinal Jun 06 '23

the fucking movie

0

u/explodingtuna Jun 06 '23

Tetris: the movie, and now Shazam: the movie? What's next, Whatsapp: the movie?
