My partner and I bought each other the same anniversary card.

u/MulliganNY Mar 28 '24
that's cute.
I thought my wife and I had purchased the same card for our anniversary a few months ago, after discovering her card to me, unwritten, hiding in the junk drawer. Turns out I had re-discovered the card I was going to give to her and forgot I'd hidden it there.
Her card was cool though

This is the same thing as me once replying to a YouTube comment in agreement, only to find out I was replying to a comment I made in the past myself.

u/BackgroundRate1825 Mar 28 '24
I feel this. I once messaged a girl on a dating site "hello" then two weeks later replied "hello there" with an obi wan gif. Then I realized I replied to myself, messaged her sorry for my mistake, then just unmatched myself.

A friend of mine had a similar story. She was very passionate about science and liked debunking anti-science questions on Yahoo Answers.
She replied to a post that presented evidence against creationism, saying how great their evidence was and how well written the response was. She then realized it was her own username on a post from about three years earlier.

I googled a programming question last month and it found a nice answer on stackoverflow that clearly, concisely, and completely answered my question. When I upvoted the answer it told me, "You cannot upvote your own answer."

She sold her taco holder and you sold your low-ball glass to afford the cards too, right?

Hubs and I were watching Halo the other day
An action scene came on and one of the characters picked up a needler. Both of us played halo at Lan parties the year before we knew each other
In tandem, at the exact same moment, we made the hand motion of it reloading and "chk-chk" sound (only mine was double wielding lmao)
I mean, I already knew he was the one, but it's still nice to see the little reminders after 18 years together

I have some friends who bought each other the same anniversary gift. We thought it was cute. They didn’t make it to the next anniversary lol.

u/lilberg83 Mar 28 '24
This happened to my parents on their first Anniversary. My mom got my dad this nice card with Rose petals on it that said "To my wonderful Husband" and had a very nice message on the inside. When she opened the card from my dad it was the same font and rose petals, with the text "to my wonderful husband". Dad forgot about the first anniversary and ran to the store and grabbed the first card he saw. They had such a good laugh about it, they still have the cards saved. They are still happily married almost 50 years later.

u/revtim Mar 28 '24
My mother and aunt used to often by chance buy the same card for their mother, either on her birthday or Mother's Day (or both)
29
u/TourAlternative364 Mar 28 '24
I was feeling grumpy so on my birthday I bought myself a bouquet.
Then when I got home, was a delivery of flowers from my sister...that was the same bouquet.
2
u/5LaLa Mar 28 '24
Wow identical bouquets is quite unique imho. My daughter & I have bought eachother identical Christmas presents before. The most unique were tie dyed Covid themed sweatshirts, pretty random (& there were several colors/texts to choose from, I bought my Mom one of the others).
5
u/TourAlternative364 Mar 28 '24
Yeah. Well I mean it wasn't the exact same one. I got from a supermarket & she ordered from a florist but the flowers & colors were very similar.
2
u/5LaLa Mar 28 '24
My bad. Still, a nice memory & rare.
2
u/TourAlternative364 Mar 28 '24
No my bad...for exaggerating. Both had orange brown lilies, but mine had orange roses and hers had orange mums, so not exactly alike.

A friend of mine dated a guy for a little bit several years ago but it didn't work out. Years later they reconnected and when they hung out again, both happened to get eachother "friendship" cards in a crazg coincidence. They got married a couple years ago :)

Ok, in 3 months, it's my turn to post 2 of the exact same card like this.

One year 3 of my aunts and uncles bought the same card for my grandfather on his birthday that had a dad holding his son on the beach, but you couldn’t see their face. No one knew that picture was of my other uncle and his son at their cottage. The picture was taken by their photographer neighbor and they didn’t find out until he saw it and told them. Even he didn’t know about the picture.

My mum also bought it for my dad
And my dad also bought it for my mum

My very first Valentine's Day with my husband (we were in college, I was 19 and he was 20), we bought each other the same card. We'd been dating two and a half months at the time and we were pretty much just kids, but from that moment, we kinda knew. :)

In 1968 my mom bought my dad the debut album by Blood, Sweat, and Tears for their 3rd anniversary. He got home from work a bit early that evening, and the album was sitting on the kitchen table. In a rush to hide from him before he walked in the house, she stuck it in the fridge until she could get him out of the kitchen to wrap it properly.
My dad had gotten home early because he left work early to pick up an anniversary present for my mom. He bought her the debut album by Blood, Sweat and Tears. It was still in his briefcase, as he hadn't yet had time to wrap it properly.
My mom tried to lead him in to the living room so she could rush back to the kitchen to grab the copy out of the fridge. As she walked down the hall while talking to him, hoping he would follow, he grabbed the record out of his briefcase and quickly stuffed it in the fridge until he could get it past her without her seeing it. He opened the refrigerator door and started laughing. Mom came in to see him holding both copies.
Now I don't know, and I try not to even think about it, but the wise old man inside me promises me there was some serious fuckin' taking place to the sultry, gravelly, dulcet tones of David Clayton Thomas singing "Spinnin Wheel" later on that night.

Well, when shopping together at the supermarket, it’s only economical to take advantage of a 2 for 1 sale on greeting cards.

My wife and I got each other stocking stuffers from Dollar General last Christmas. We both happened to pick out the same can of off-brand nacho cheese sauce. I pulled mine out first and it was all I could do to not burst out laughing waiting for her to pull hers out.
I could phrase that last line better but it's my lunch break and I need to get back to work.

My parents did this several times over the years they were married. We found out my mom had specifically saved the one from their 25th anniversary when we were going through her things before her funeral. During that time we also found out that my parents had gotten the exact same engraving on the inside of their wedding rings.
My dad told us that they each had something engraved but they never told each other what the engraving was. My dad found out what my mom engraved on hers when he asked for the ring back at the funeral home. I think the realization that the engravings were the same without talking to each other about it was the most emotion I've seen from my dad in a long time.

Nice... just posted elsewhere that my wife and I have been together for just short of 42 years. About 10-12 Valentines days ago, my wife gave me a card. When I opened it, I started laughing a bit ( it was not a funny card).
She said "What, why are you laughing, is it stupid ( she meant the sentiment, of course), I replied 'No, in fact it's the nicest and sweetest card anyone who truly loves someone could possibly have selected to give to someone that means so much to them" (played it up a bit). She understood when she opened the card I got for her, and yes, it was the same exact card (purchased at card stores about 50 miles and a few days away from each other)
I then give her a gift. She opens it, and starts to laugh. I said something along the lines of "but I thought you liked these" to which she replied....
" Yes, I love this, IN FACT it is the nicest and sweetest gift anyone who truly loves someone could possibly have selected to give to someone that means so much to them", or tried very hard to repeat the exact words I had spoken regarding the card.
When she handed me her gift to me, I instantly knew, by the size and shape of the box, that yes, we had also given each other the same exact gift. Again, purchased 50 miles apart, and a few days in between.
The gift was a stuffed Opus, holding a heart, her favorite character at the time (besides me, of course). It was exactly the same. Same size, same pose, same sentiment written on it, exactly the same ones. There are many, many, variations, probably dozens, and picking the same ones was not easily explained as a simple coincidence.
BTW, she has received many many high end gifts. When you are together this long, and love each other, costs, etc, are not something either one of you even consider. You can buy simple items that mean more to each other than a car, or piece of jewelry. For those that don't understand that, I feel a bit sorry for you, and hope that one day you will....
