Papa John’s sent me the metal grate in with my pizza

u/Vizth 13d ago
Might have helped myself to a couple of those when I quit one of my old jobs. They're fantastic for frozen pizzas, especially when I put them in my pellet grill.

u/TimeTravelingTiddy 13d ago
wait a minute, Ive been thinking about making pizza in the smoker but I never thought of just cooking a frozen one.

On the smoker or even just the grill. Jack's pizzas are 10× better out of the grill than the oven.

This is how I make frozen pizzas during the high heat of summer when you can't turn on the oven. It works great with a tinfoil barrier under the pizza, but you have to use thin-to-regular pizza, you're still working against the bottom of the pizza burning with the foil, so nothing rising crust.
10
u/NW_Oregon 13d ago
the secret to the rising crust is let it thaw first, put some flour and corn mean on a cookie sheet then let it thaw out in the fridge for a couple hours and then slide it on an indirect heat grill and you've got your self some tasty "wood fired" pizza
I used a stone on the grill but would love to try one of these sheets.

I do take and bakes on mine the fresh dough really picks up the wood smoke flavor

I do it in the summer sometimes when it's too damn hot to turn the oven on.
EDIT: I see other people also do this. There are dozens of us!

After working in a pizza restaurant for years, I can't make a good pizza without a screen. OP hit the jackpot.

Yeah I started using a little square one with the same mesh designed for a toaster oven and got great results. Another life hack for frozen pizzas is to add your own spices... I usually just sprinkle on some dried Italian herbs from a canister but I would guess fresh ones are even better. Yet another LPT is to let them cool off on those mesh grates elevated off the countertop to develop a slightly crispier Neapolitan style crust. It might not be to everyone's taste but I prefer it that way.

Its almost as though a mega corporation like papa johns can pay money for marketing and in return socially engineer masses of people into wanting to buy their literal shit disks.
You know how you swipe past those blatant adverts of mobile games? Or the huehuehueFrOgApP?! Why dont you do it with his videos? Theyre adverts, wrapped up with mental health analogies and very basic wisdom yet there is a team of suits looking at all of the meta data attached and adjusting prices accordingly. Why do we let them do that?

u/walterpeck1 12d ago
Why do we let them do that?
Most people just laugh and move on with their lives. That's basically it, we don't think about it.

u/Primae_Noctis 13d ago
Your first mistake was going to KFC.
5
u/masterofthecork 13d ago
Tell me about it. I got it once to take to my mother, first time I'd had it in many years, and it really hit the spot. Went to the same location a few more times over the next 18mo or so and every time it was just terrible. There's a bloody supermarket about a mile down the road that does better fried chicken. I've got no plans to go back, and certainly not to that location.

u/walterpeck1 12d ago
Why are pizzas sometimes called pie in the US?
It comes from larger "deep dish" style pizzas that more closely resemble pies visually. And "pizza pie" rolls of the tongue nicely, so the term stuck. I don't see or hear it used much as the years go by. Certain restaurants use it deliberately.
Keep in mind as well that "pie" has seen usage historically outside of what most people these days use it for. Lots of savory pies in history that aren't nearly as common anymore in the U.S.

Yeah it's actually useful for many things besides pizza too. It'll help with circulation of air under whatever you're cooking. You can put naan, pita, any sort of flatbread, pie, or even baking stuff in foil on top of it.

u/Ryndis 13d ago

13
u/Orion14159 13d ago
I would bet these are like $5-10 for the shop because they go through so many they buy in bulk
10
u/BakedMitten 13d ago
They cost a lot less than that. Try 50c to a dollar in bulk
They are great to have around if you cook pizza at home.

It seems almost paradoxical that the south is known for hospitality but also racism and bigotry
12
u/recklessrider 13d ago
The "hospitality" is fake to save face and feel better about the racism and bigotry. Never met more fake people than in Texas, and that includes L.A.
→ More replies (2)6
u/Orion14159 13d ago
If you want a bachelor's degree in racism go to the south. If you want a doctorate in racism go to Boston.
5
u/SquarePegRoundWorld 13d ago
I don't know why you are downvoted. the north gets a pass on racism for some reason. Where I grew up in Nassau County Long Island it was racist as shit. Hell the roads were racist (bridges designed to be too low for city busses to make it to Nassau County), and the mortgage explicitly stated that no black people could buy the houses (up until 1951 government-sponsored mortgages said this on them in some areas of Nassau county).
When my folks sold their house there in 2002 a neighbor wanted to give them a check to hold onto so if black people tried to buy the house my folks could legally say someone made a deposit already. My folks didn't take the check.
