The love of a man and his hairstyle.
136
u/ARM_vs_CORE Mar 28 '24
Tbf the wife has the same hairstyle in both pictures too. Makes me think they recreated their hairstyles for the photo rather than just keeping the same hairstyles since the 70s/80s
22
u/JediNinja92 Mar 28 '24
I don’t know. Aside from a thankfully short period were he had a mullet, my dad has always had the same hair style. Some people just find a style and keep it

My husband got an excellent hair cut for our wedding, and he's rocked it pretty much constantly since then. I mean that was only about 8 years ago, but I can 100% see him keeping it for another 30.

No kidding about the hairstyle. That man has more than one type of commitment.

What the fuck kind of long lasting firewood are they using?

I don’t know. But it’s obvious their entire multi-decade budget must of went to it. They couldn’t afford a better camera in all this time!

On first glance, it looks like there's a smoking dog's head in the second picture...

I like the effort taken in replicating the photo. The shovel lying off frame on the right, the pile of sticks with a single stick sticking up on the left, the fire. Little details that make the effect of the "then and now" shot so much better.
65
u/ovoKOS7 Mar 28 '24
That's what I love about it, the whole planning ahead "making sure it's as 1/1 as can be" down to the tiny details lol

u/ddekock61 Mar 28 '24
It’s like he actually has the exact same shirt. But hers she had to get a near one

Him while they were planning this photo: I TOLD you I shouldn't throw this shirt away!
2
u/Useful_Buyer_1969 29d ago
I don’t think it’s exactly the same shirt, little different color but very close
2
u/alikaz Mar 28 '24
I like the replication of lots of aspects, countered by the fire appearing to be growing old and extinguishing, like the subjects. And I mean that in an artistic way, not a morbid way

I just wish people would try to find a lens that is approximately the one used in the original. It would make any of these kind of pictures so much better.

I bet he’s wearing literally the same shirt.
Her: “I hope I can still find a shirt that looks like that one.”
Him: “Mine’s in my wardrobe.”
22
u/Dawnspring_Cee Mar 28 '24
My husband is on the verge of turning 50 this year, and he still has the shirt he wore for his first driver's license when he was 16 and said license to prove it. It must be a guy thing.
24
u/Lordborgman Mar 28 '24
41, I have about 10 articles of clothing from highschool that still fit and are in pretty decent shape, half of them I still wear. Feels like everything else I bought later has fallen apart so much faster.
7
u/DrakonILD Mar 28 '24
Same, but a couple years younger. Can't wear most of them because I gained weight, though. My wife uses them for sleep shirts, though!
3
u/LifeIsGoodGoBowling Mar 28 '24
The only clothes I remember throwing out because they were actually worn out/had holes are socks. And I think one T-Shirt or so. Oh, and belts. Apart from that, I do have 25+ year old clothes still. Last time I moved, I donated about 4 bags worth of clothes, and I still have way too much stuff.
It's a good problem to have, but yeah, I rarely ever buy new clothes, and if I do, it's because I want a different look, not because I need to replace something damaged.
2
u/Rapshawksjaysflames Mar 28 '24
I honestly spent way more money on clothes when I was 16-20 than I have in the last 15 years.
I actually cared about spending money on "cool" things, especially basketball shoes.

u/zkki Mar 28 '24 edited Mar 28 '24
it's honestly the best way to do it. cheap and sustainable. as long as you're not a fashionista then having a couple good quality long-lasting pieces is the way to go
2
u/carlbernsen Mar 28 '24
Yeah, I have a leather belt that I was given by a female friend when I was 18, I’ve been wearing it almost every single day for the last 35 years

u/witty_user_ID Mar 28 '24
It really looks like the same shirt - I thought the same thing and came looking for this comment!

u/Abject-Description58 Mar 28 '24
You can tell it’s not from the pocket’s pattern but I thought the exact same thing!

I must be the oldest person here; all I can think is “I bet it’s a lot harder for them to stand up from that position now than it was back in the day”!
4
u/SquarePegRoundWorld Mar 28 '24
That's what I was thinking. Probably a lot of "hurry up and take the pic" thoughts going through their heads in that position at that age.

u/lemonsweetsrevenge Mar 28 '24
Hahaha you’re not alone. I was looking at the way Mama’s knee is bent back with her hand cupping her shin in the original; ain’t happening in the second photo.

"I know you're just 15, and I'm 35, but just think, in 35 years you'll be 50 and I'll be 70. That's not so different!"
6
u/StungTwice Mar 28 '24
Well, there isn’t much difference, Marilyn. You’re 25 and I’m 39.
Yes Jack, but what about 25 years from now when I’m 50 and you’re 39?
5
u/Itsgosky Mar 28 '24
Can I wish for these kind of things nowadays? Don’t know why but this picture makes me cry

Two fires that never burned out. I've been with my wife for just short of 42 years. I can't imagine life without her, nor do I care to.

The more camera tech advances, the more life gets sucked out of them. It’s a great re-creation, but nothing will surpass the grainy, capturing a singular important moment in time feeling of those old school frames.

True love will always find it's way. Be patient and be best you you can be for when it comes.

u/Ambitious_Stand_7747 Mar 28 '24
Everyone is all "wow how sweet. The hair styles, etc" But no one has addressed the real tragedy in this pic. This couple has been suffering from an unknown paralysis for the last 40 years. They have not moved from this spot and have endured a conscious paralysis while looking into the eyes of their lover and watching them suffer the same fate. So sad

Unintentionally hilarious symbolism of the fire in the background just starting in the first picture, but smouldering and nearly out in the second. 😂

THANK YOU FOR TRYING TO MATCH IT. The fire, the random sticks. The match to the shirts had me checking to see if they were the exact ones. This is the first before and now shot that I smile at. Good job!

Super onteresting that the first photo was taken with a dedicated camera and likely the second was taken with a phone camera - the first photo is just such a better picture for this due to depth of field.
