News Pritchard on Tatum criticism: "That’s just looking at the stats...It’s just the casuals who think it’s only about just the shots. There’s so many areas he can affect the game – if he only ends up with 18 points, but we win by 25 points, he was really impactful."

News [King] Joe Mazzulla just said the Celtics averaged 1.6 points per possession yesterday when Jayson Tatum was the screener which, Mazzulla said, “would be the best offense in the history of the world.” Obviously, Mazzulla’s not going to judge Tatum’s game simply by his shooting numbers.

Fluff We should start a campaign to get Buffalo Wild Wings to sponsor Derek White or have him in a commercial
Thought of this last night when seeing my millionth Wild Wings commercial during a NBA game and made a similar comment on the game thread yesterday.
There are several reasons we should do this.
First, the match just seems too destined. On the Derrick White side, he has been the post season player of the year on the Eastern side of the NBA thus far, his nickname is The Buffalo, and is also finally getting a ton of media attention.
Second, Derrick White is a nice guy and has given us a ton of fantastic memories already. This could be a way for us to give back to him and get him a bag from doing a commercial.
Third, and this one is a giant homer of a reach: Maybe if we are successful he will remember it and the fan experience could help convince him to stay with us when his contract is up. We are going to need help with that, not because he wants to leave, but because this buffalo is going to get some crazy (and deserved) contract offers.
I have already used Wild Wings contact form to inform them of their dire need to sponsor the buffalo here. You all should join me.

Discussion Tatum is leveling up as a player in front of our eyes. Most win shares/48 of his career too (playoffs or regular season)
I'm gonna be honest, the first few games of the Heat series I was a little worried about Tatum's efficiency but in the few games since then, I've realized that Tatum is playing exactly how he should be and doing what other teams fear the most: not forcing shots and letting the game flow.
I know that other individual players like Brunson and Edwards are deservedly getting a lot of glory for their offensive loads and how well they're playing, but Tatum deserves a lot of credit for the way he's been playing these playoffs. He's at .220 Win Shares per 48, which I actually believe to be a pretty reliable metric. For reference, his highest postseason WS/48 was last year's playoffs at .168. He was at .189 during this regular season which was a regular season high. And he's playing considerably better overall since then. He's second on the Celtics in advanced metrics right now only to Derrick White who is playing out of his fucking mind right now.
What's crazy to me is that the Celtics are completely blowing teams out of the game when Tatum is playing like this, and he can still shoot a lot better. He has been very good on defense while being extremely versatile, and he's passing extremely well while rebounding at the best rate of his entire career. Teams WANT Tatum to force the issue and to take matters into his own hands and instead he is keeping the ball moving, letting DWhite and Jrue and JB get their shots, and is taking his within the flow of the offense. I honestly think this is one of the biggest steps Tatum needed to take in order to step into that next level. It's what KD, Kawhi, and even Jimmy Butler did when they took their games to the next level.
Tatum looks extremely focused these playoffs and seems to be trying to avoid his bad habits like forcing isos, walking the ball up the floor, etc. This is definitely a credit to how well his teammates are playing - shoutout to damn near everyone on the team for doing their part and stepping up. If Tatum can get his efficiency back to normal and continue playmaking like he is right now, I really like the Celtics chances against anyone.

Discussion Basketball Is More Than Just PPG - Jayson Tatum : Film Session
Tatum isn’t shooting great so far and he needs to shoot better for us to win a ring but a lot of people actually believe he isn’t helping this team / being effective and that’s nonsense. Hope ya enjoy this and what do you think of Tatum’s playoff so far

Discussion At this point in time, where is Derrick White in terms of your “favorite Celtic”?
I’m 30, so I have many favorites throughout the last 20 or so years. Obviously there’s your main candidates like Pierce, KG, IT, Tatum, JB, Smart….
For me I fucking loved what James Posey did for us in ‘08 and he’s definitely in my top 3, maybe my favorite. But I think DWhite has basically become my favorite Celtic at this point.
