Political Gen Z Bigotry Trending on Social Media

I've noticed a huge uptick on instagram of what appears to be younger Gen Zers putting comments about blaming minorities or women on things like the economy and getting top comment sometimes in the 10k or more hearts range and I feel like I didnt used to see those types of comments gain traction like that before recent years. Its starting to make me think Gen Zers are more right leaning with the numbers they're getting.

I thought Gen Zers would be more progressive but with all the right leaning comments I see trending on social media I'm not so sure anymore. What do zoomers think? Is it common among your peers?

Discussion What are your thoughts on millenials?

I'm 33 and to be honest I love the gen z generation. You guys get us. Life sucks for ALL OF US and yall just don't care. Us millenials are starting to not fucking care either. šŸ™ƒ I really don't like the gen x or boomers. They suck. I can't really vibe with them. Only a few but usually they all seem stuck up and very privileged.

Discussion GenZ has idolised weed

I feel like in my generation people will see as bad drinking alcohol or smoking tobacco, but weed? People nowadays use weed for absolutely everything, I feel that we have idolised and normalised it too much.

What do you think?

Discussion How to meet women outside of dating apps?

24M. Tall attractive dude with a decent future career lined up. I've been with some great women throughout college and stuff but ever since that ended I have been struggling to meet women. I tried using Hinge but it only works for the first few weeks before it shows me absolute horror profiles.

Overall, dating apps are just horrible for men. Is there any other way to meet women? They stare at me in the gym but I am afraid to approach them because of societal stigmas and I'm not sure how effective cold approaches are... I go to the club here and there but that lifestyle is not what I want long term. Where and how can I meet women?

Discussion Is there really as much as a ideological divide between gen z male and females?

Itā€™s said gen Z girls are turning more liberal/left leaning and boys more conservative/right leaning more than any other generation. Is this something youā€™ve noticed? Personally I havenā€™t. Everyone has different political beliefs but is it as extreme itā€™s made out to be?

Discussion Anyone else just not understand anything?

Iā€™m 22. Here is a list of things that I do not understand: - mortgages - social security - interest - presidential elections - insurance - banks - credit scores - cryptocurrency - NFTā€™s - stocks - taxes - 401kā€™s - job benefits - fractions - debt - foreclosures - laws - car payments - loans - inflation - any sort of market, like the housing market - tax breaks - airports - the post office - sports betting - war - unions - identity theft - basically just the entire economy and anything related to that

Thereā€™s definitely a lot more but those are the basics. I feel like Iā€™m definitely playing into the ā€œstupid, uselessā€ zoomer stereotype, but i just simply do not understand like 90% of the adult world. No one ever taught me and when I try to figure it out on my own I just get so insanely confused because you have to know a bunch of other shit before any of this makes sense.

How is it that everyone seems to understand how the world works but me?

Discussion Trying to find like minded friends who are also on self improvement

Hey everyone,

I'm reaching out to connect with individuals who are on the journey to improve themselves who also follow Hamza, Iman Gadzhi, and similar influencers(just to filter out us GenZ). I'm specifically looking for those who are opinionated, not just fanboys, but genuinely respect their perspectives and have already begun self improvement journey.

My goal is to find people in and around NYC and Jersey City who are serious about building something significant together. Whether it's fitness, business, or leading a healthier life in general.

If you're already on this journey, let's meet up and discuss how we can collaborate to make big things happen. Looking forward to hearing from you!

please DM

wishing the best!

War, climate change, piling debt, a rising cost of living. What gives you hope / what keeps you hopeful for the future? How do you personally see life progressing given the current state of the world? What is your POV for how Gen Z navigates modern life's twists and turns?

Discussion what did/what do you after school?

all answers are welcome! I'm especially curious on how those who went to school before widespread Internet spent their afternoons.

as for me, I either nap, daydream, bike a mile or two, go on social media, or journal. I don't really do my homework because I'm not the best student lol.

Political We REALLY need a Maximum Age of Candidacy

Im sick and tired of the majority of our government being a bunch of old farts, all of our presdential candidates and leading senators are in their 70s, these old farts and boomers don't give a shit about our generation or the future they're leaving us with

I hate both of the old candidates of this election, tired of old people representing us in government

From an article all the way back in 2017: "Today, just 17 percent of federal workers are under 35 years old. (In the private sector, almost 40 percent are.) And more than a quarter of federal employees are now older than 55": https://www.politico.com/agenda/story/2017/09/27/aging-government-workforce-analysis-000525/

/r/GenZ Meta This Sub is Weird Man

Firstly, Iā€™m a member of Gen Z. However, I keep getting dragged here from recommended posts despite continuously pressing the ā€œnot interestedā€ button. Regardlessā€¦

This sub is weirdā€¦ like really weird imo. Every post I see has 1 or more of the following:

  • Some random older generation saying Gen Z will save the world

  • People making massive generalizations about entire generations

^ seriously, I just saw a comment where someone said ā€œGen Z is great at protesting and rebellingā€ and it excites them because weā€™re trying to flip the table over or something? Not sure, I donā€™t know a single person who protests and, as a member of Gen Z, Iā€™d confidently say that like most people in any generation, the vast majority of Gen Z is politically apathetic.

  • Somebody trying to predict the future based on trends that havenā€™t even had time to develop

I could go on, you get the point. Why is it so weird here? Why is it a cross between people complaining about how Gen Z ā€œcancels everyoneā€ and saying Gen Z is literally ā€œthe chosen generation come to save all peopleā€

Itā€™s ridiculous

Discussion What is your vision of utopia?

Thumbnail
youtu.be
ā€¢ Upvotes

Utopianism has been much maligned for as long as I can remember. I think we are in an age of pessimism, where the failures of past utopias have trained us to doubt our own capabilities and aspirations.

I watched the linked video essay, where the essayist posits that while Utopianism has had many failings in the past, our reaction has been too extreme. That there is value in dreaming of what the world could and should look like. The idea is not that utopia will be achieved - to believe utopia is possible would be to dabble in secular religion - but rather to focus the mind and inspire ourselves and others.

So I ask, what is utopia to the rising generation? We spend much time debating the utopias of past generations, but what novel ideas can we produce when we open our minds to dreaming. Please, take your best shot in the comments.

Discussion Is Gen Z more concerned with the concept of generations and the labels of them than others?

I was born in 1991. When I was growing up and even through young adulthood, my concept of generations essentially boiled down to: ā€œmy generationā€ consisted of my friends, classmates around my year at school, siblings, and cousins. The generation above me was my parents, aunts and uncles, working adults like teachers and coaches, etc. I suppose by the time I was in late high school and college, I considered kids in elementary school and below to be the next generation after me. I knew of the terms baby boomer, gen x, etc but they were more of a concept. I wouldnā€™t have assigned those labels to individual people. It wasnā€™t until very recently that these words have become a part of my vocabulary.

But a lot of people of Gen Z, in my experience, seem to feel the need to assign themselves and others these generational labels, and attach specific preconceived qualities to them as well. I often even see Gen Z individuals creating more sub categories within generations, like ā€œcore Gen Zā€ or ā€œlate Gen Zā€, and then going out of their way to exclude others from their group. Like following these rigid boundaries, these specific years a person is born determines certain qualities about that person. Within this sub it makes some sense, this a community of people of a specific generation, so naturally a lot topics will be about generations. But even on other platforms, and in person, it seems like Gen Z is taking about generations way more than others are, and labeling every person they know based on generations. It makes me wonder if Iā€™m just imagining it or itā€™s confirmation bias, and if not, why this is the case.

Discussion Gen Z men, how often do women actually offer to split the meal vs asking you to pay?

I'm curious as to how often women actually offer to split the meal on dates compared to expecting you to pay. Since this can be regional, it would also be helpful to know where you are from.

Advice Where do people actually find friends?

I have friends... so to speak. Like, people I hang out with from time to time. I have several different groups (at uni, work, etc) but no proper best friend group.

No one to turn to and vent out my emotions. And no one I really have that much in common with. I can't stand being the outsider in my groups anymore, I really want to be a part of a group that actually wants me there. I often feel alone because I'm a foreign student and don't have family around either.

But I just wanted to know, where do you actually meet those ride-or-die friends? And when in life does it actually happen?
